Former Rebel Anthony Bennett inks deal with Cavs

Cleveland Cavaliers Bennett Talks to the Media

Former UNLV and current Cleveland Cavaliers forward Anthony Bennett talks to the media Tuesday, July 16, 2013.

The Cavaliers have signed first-round draft picks Anthony Bennett and Sergey Karasev and second-round pick Carrick Felix to contracts, the team announced Tuesday.

It’s all a formality in the NBA because the rookie scale contracts dictate what teams can pay.

While the exact figures aren’t immediately available, Bennett — who played a year at UNLV before turning pro — was expected to sign for the maximum 120 percent of the rookie scale, which would be about $5.3 million for this season.

Felix signed his deal a few weeks ago but the team never formally announced it.

The Cavaliers will control both players for five seasons.

The Cavs now have 15 players under contract for this season.
