It appears UC Santa Barbara will finally land a Las Vegas-area basketball player.

Arbor View incoming senior Justin Burks said today he will verbally commit to UC Santa Barbara when he arrives for an official recruiting trip this evening, picking the Southern California school over offers from Southern Utah and Cal-State Bakersfield.

Two weeks ago, Diontae Jones — Burks’ AAU teammate with the Las Vegas Prospects — picked Wyoming over Santa Barbara.

"I just like the environment there. I feel the staff is the right fit for me," said Burks, a 6-foot-5 wing. "I like them; they like me. We have a good vibe."

Last season, Burks helped Arbor View reach win the Northwest League title for the first time in the school’s eight-year history, averaging 21 points per game.

His recruiting interested spiked this spring while playing for the Las Vegas Prospects, when he was elevated by Rivals.com in its prospect rankings to a three-star recruit. He was also courted by Colorado, Tulsa, Washington, Boise State, Weber State and UC Davis.

"I feel my jumper has really clicked," he said of his rise on recruiting boards. "Overall, my confidence has pushed me to get better."
