Fire starts in palm trees, spreads to carport

A saw burst into flames as tree trimmers refueled it while still hot, causing a fire in three large palm trees that spread to a carport, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials said.

Nobody was injured.

The fire was reported at 12:46 p.m. today at a house at 709 N. 23rd St., near Eastern Avenue and Bonanza Road.

The fire damaged the carport, but firefighters quickly put out the blaze and stopped it from spreading to the interior of the house, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The residents of the house have been displaced until utilities can be restored, Szymanski said.
