51s keep pace in standings with one-run victory

Pitcher Jacob deGrom helped his own cause today for the Las Vegas 51s, connecting on a solo home run in a 4-3 victory against visiting New Orleans.

Las Vegas scored twice in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie, including deGrom’s home run to leadoff the frame. Lucas Duda’s RBI groundout scored the other run in the sixth.

New Orleans responded with three runs in the seventh inning for a 3-2 lead, but the 51s scored once in the seventh and eighth for the win.

In the seventh, Ruben Tejada scored Eric Campbell with a sacrifice fly. In the eighth, Campbell’s run-scoring double scored Francisco Pena.

The win keeps Las Vegas at pace with first-place Sacramento in the Pacific Southern Division. Sacramento also won today.

Las Vegas and New Orleans continue their series at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
