51s’ Montero pitches gem in victory against Oklahoma City

Rafael Montero and three Las Vegas relievers limited Oklahoma City to three hits today, leading the 51s to a 4-1 victory.

Montero went seven innings, striking out nine and giving up just two hits and one run. Oklahoma City’s George Springer connected on a first-inning home run for the Redhawks’ lone run.

Las Vegas answered with a home run of its own in the first when Kirk Nieuwenhuis evened the game with a solo home shot.

Travis d’Arnaud had two hits and two runs scored for Las Vegas, which remained one game behind Sacramento in the Pacific Southern Division standings. Sacramento beat Omaha earlier today to stay in first.

Las Vegas and Oklahoma City continue their series at 7:05 p.m. Sunday.
