Fire warning issued as wind gusts up to 50 mph predicted

The National Weather Service issued a fire warning today for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area because of high winds and low humidity.

The warning was issued at 5 a.m. today and is expected to remain in effect until 5 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of up to 40 to 50 mph are expected but should subside as a cold front moves into the valley early Tuesday, officials said.

Humidity, which was at 15 percent, will continue to fall to the single digits, according to the weather service.
