A man died Friday night after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle under the influence of alcohol, North Las Vegas Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said.

Police responded to the collision between the man and an SUV at about 7:20 p.m. in the 49000 block of Cheyenne Avenue, between Rancho Drive and Decatur Boulevard. Preliminary investigations indicated that the bicyclist was crossing Cheyenne, forcing several cars to swerve when the SUV struck him, police said.

The 55-year-old bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the bicyclist appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver of the SUV will not be charged, police said.
