Red Flag fire warning issued for Las Vegas Valley

High winds and low humidity have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag fire warning for the Las Vegas Valley.

The warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, officials said. The report specifically identified Lake Mead as an area that could be at risk of fire.

Winds averaging 20 to 25 mph will sweep across the valley, with gusts of up to 40 mph in the late morning.

The combination of high winds and low humidity — 6 to 11 percent — creates conditions favorable for forest fires, the National Weather Service said.
