The police department needs money. Instead of raising taxes, here’s a good idea: Why not take all of the marijuana that the police seize and turn it over to a licensed seller who, in turn, could sell it to medical marijuana card holders?

In one bust, nearly 40 pounds of marijuana were seized, along with thousands of plants. You do the math.

To me, it seems like a waste to burn it when it can be used for something positive.

  1. The letter writer has a valid point. I would take the issue further: legalize pot for private consumption, and tax it. The ludicrous war on drugs is an abject failure; law enforcement has better things to do, and the jails and prisons are full of folks busted for using and possessing pot.

Another step to raise substantial revenue for this state would be to have a lottery. This month, folks will be able to participate in Power Ball by simply driving to Primm to purchase tickets. That is a serious chunk of revenue that Nevada will not receive. The gaming cabal does not want a lottery because of the specious argument that it will hurt gaming revenue here. Nonsense. A person purchasing a few quick picks at Primm is not going to effect the casinos bottom line in the least. If that is a concern, then place the lottery ticket purchase points in the casinos: win win for everyone.

  2. The country will only allow one illegal drug at a time. Alcohol was here first.

  3. Bad idea. The seized weed could be tainted or worse.

Stop the nonsense of medical weed. It's just a wink and a nod way for literally anyone to get a prescription. Go tell one of those weed doctors you have bad pain pain. Bam. You get a prescription. Do you really have back pain? No. You're a stoner.

Legalize it. Tax it. This would greatly help the trafficking issue too.

  4. Don't burn it , make brownies with it and have a bake sale for a fund raiser. Daaang , why do I have to come up with great ideas.

  5. Just legalize pot & gay marriage already. I can't take it anymore! Then people can move on & concentrate on more pressing issues facing us.
