Updated Tuesday, April 2, 2013 | 5:10 p.m.

A 54-year-old woman died Tuesday after she ran a red light and her car collided with a pickup truck at Decatur Boulevard and Gowan Road, North Las Vegas Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said.

The crash was reported about 9:40 a.m., Coon said. The initial investigation revealed the woman, who was driving north on Decatur, ran a red light and was hit by the pickup truck, which was heading west on Gowan, Coon said.

Evidence at the scene indicated the woman may been distracted by her cellphone, Coon said.

The woman was transported to University Medical Center, where she died, Coon said. A 4- to 6-year-old child in the car also was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Police did not provide the child's gender.

The 71-year-old man who was driving the pickup truck suffered serious injuries, Coon said.

The intersection was shut down and is expected to remain closed for several more hours, she said.

The intersection of Gowan Road and Decatur Boulevard has been reopened, she said.
