Centennial football players Coby Newton, Chris Johnson, Trajan Pili and Austin Turley Thursday, July 26, 2012.

Coby Newton rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries Friday night to lead the host Centennial High football team to a 42-10 victory against Bonanza in the Southwest League opener.

Centennial (4-1, 1-0), which struggled to move the ball last week in losing to Arbor View, returned to its strong rushing attack against Bonanza.

“We have to get a little tougher up front,” Centennial coach Leon Evans said. “We were feeling pretty good about ourselves until that Arbor View game and got punched in the mouth.”

Lantz Worthington added 96 rushing yards and a touchdown on seven carries for Centennial, and Andrew Romoff had three carries for 56 yards and a touchdown
