A fire burned an apartment complex on Karen Avenue near Maryland Parkway for the second time in less than three months on Thursday evening, this time displacing at least 20 residents.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which was reported at 5:47 p.m.

Clark County firefighters arriving at the scene, 1750 E. Karen Avenue, saw smoke and flames emanating from a second-story apartment window.

The fire took about a half-hour to knock down because it spread into the attic, Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling said in a statement.

Four units suffered fire damage and another four suffered water damage. All were rendered uninhabitable, leaving at least 20 people displaced.

The American Red Cross is assisting the victims, and the apartment complex may relocate some into other unoccupied units, Welling said.

The fire, which caused an estimated $650,000 in damage, is still under investigation.

The Clark County Fire Department previously responded to a fire at the same apartment complex on July 5. That blaze caused an estimated $1.5 million in damage and displaced 46 people.
