Mini Cooper driver killed in collision on I-215

One person died and two were injured in a five-car crash on Interstate 215 near Sahara Avenue around 7 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Kevin Honea said.

A man driving a black Chevy Tahoe had failed to slow down for traffic and slammed into a stopped Mini Cooper going an estimated 55 mph, Honea said. The collision killed the driver of the Mini Cooper and injured the passenger. A person in a separate car was also injured.

All three victims were taken to University Medical Center, where the driver of the Mini Cooper was pronounced dead. The man driving the Tahoe fled the accident on foot, Honea said. Nevada Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver.

Honea said I-215 westbound near Sahara Avenue is closed for investigation. Traffic is being diverted to the Sahara off-ramp and can get back on the highway from the Sahara on-ramp.

Nevada Highway Patrol urges anyone with information on the accident to contact Nevada Highway Patrol investigators at (702) 486-4100.

  1. I'm sure the Tahoe was reported stolen as soon as the driver got to a phone. A terrible, terrible incident.
