Fatal fire

Firefighters responding to reports of an explosion this morning discovered a 60-year-old man dead inside a burning mobile home, authorities said.

The fire was reported just before 7:50 a.m. at the home at 3464 Death Valley Drive, near East Desert Inn Road and South Nellis Boulevard in the east valley.

Clark County firefighters found the home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames, and bystanders reported that a man was inside the house, officials said. It took about 15 minutes to put the fire out, officials said.

Nobody else was in the house, Metro Police spokesman Jose Hernandez said. The cause of the fire has not been determined, he said.

Homicide and arson investigators were on the scene, Hernandez said.

Damage was estimated at $15,000, officials said.
