Easter Seals Nevada
It’s an adventure of a lifetime for adrenaline junkies, and hundreds of Strip visitors will watch 80 daredevils as they plunge more than 300 feet from the rooftop of Planet Hollywood.
The thrill-seekers are raising money at the event to benefit Special Olympics Nevada. To participate, the “Over the Edge” rappellers must raise or donate a minimum of $1,000 to the charity. The event has been held in previous years at sister property the Rio but moves onto the Strip for the first of at least three consecutive years of jumps.
“Rappelling down the side of one of the Strip’s most recognizable properties is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We are thrilled to serve as host and proud of our three-year partnerships with Special Olympics,” said Maggie Schwartz, regional VP of the Special Olympics. “How many people will ever say they rappelled overlooking one of the most famous streets in the world? The experience is crazy and unique, and the benefit to Special Olympics is colossal.”
No experience is required, and details are at OvertheEdgeLasVegas.com. The descents will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.
BY THE NUMBERS: Lingerie Football League player Nikki Johnson’s YouTube video has passed 3.5 million views since we posted the Las Vegas Sin’s “hit of the year” Monday. ESPN, ABC and Fox have aired it.
I can’t wait for Tim McGraw’s upcoming Venetian concerts with his singer wife Faith Hill. Meantime, we’ve got a look at his new video “Truck Yeah” released today. It will make everybody “hillbilly proud,” and fans are clicking on it, with more than 100,000 hits in the first hours.
As we near 29,000 followers on Twitter and aim for 30K, I found it interesting that TweetsMap stats say that 17 percent of our readers live in Las Vegas, nearly 5 percent in California and 3 percent in New York City. Followers are as far away as England, Germany, Mexico, Philippines, South Africa, Canada, Colombia, Australia, Venezuela and India. Some 64 percent are from North America and 36 percent outside the continent. Come visit; are all welcome!
VOLLEYBALL OLYMPIANS: The new Bagatelle club and restaurant will be open by the end of October after permit and construction holdups. Meantime, though closed to the public, beach volleyball Olympians Jake Gibb, Sean Rosenthal, Jen Kessy, April Ross, Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser took part in the 2012 National Volleyball League “Best of the Beach” Tournament at Bagatelle Beach for the $100,000 grand prize. At the end of the three-day event, two-time Olympian Jake and 2012 silver medalist April were crowned “Best of the Beach.”
GIVING INSTEAD OF RECEIVING: In celebration of his birthday each year, Phi Nguyen of Monte Carlo headliners Jabbawockeez teams up with friends in the entertainment industry for a monthlong fundraising event for nonprofits. From Sept. 15-Oct. 15, Phi and friends encourage fans to help their goal to raise $10,000 for Easter Seals Nevada, the state’s largest community disability agency serving more than 7,000 children and adults with disabilities. Phi will tour Easter Seals on Thursday and visit the incredible individuals the organization serves. Incidentally, signs are up at Luxor that the new Jabbawockeez theater is under construction for their move. I’m told opening night at the pyramid will be in April.
HONORS & AWARDS: Gentlemen’s club Crazy Horse III was named Best Club in the West at this year’s Exotic Dancer Awards. The hometown hotspot busted out on top at the largest annual adult-venue awards honoring the top gentlemen’s clubs, entertainers and staff in the industry.
DJ Times magazine and Pioneer DJ have announced that Las Vegas regular Markus Schulz has been voted America’s Best DJ for 2012. He will be honored Oct. 7 at Marquee Nightclub in the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
MACHINE GUNFIRE: The 10,000-square-foot Machine Guns Vegas is an extraordinary firearms experience, and it’s heating up the range with its newest addition, a historic MP40. The attraction boasts one of the worlds most unique and exhilarating firearms. The MP40 was introduced during World War II and issued to German paratroopers, platoon and squad leaders. It weighs 8.9 pounds, is 32.8 inches long and can fire 500 rounds per minute.

Catering to the young and modern crowd, Planet Hollywood is a one-stop shop for entertainment with its massive shopping mall, slew of restaurants, spacious casino and clubs.
The ambiance of the casino is retro-chic meets high-tech with black granite floors throughout and colorful LED lights throughout the space. The theme carries into the 100,000 square-foot casino with 250 flat screens topping off slot machines. The casino is also home to 87 tables, a sports book and a poker room.
There's also the Miracle Mile Shops, one Vegas' largest malls, with 140 stores including BCBG Max Azaria, bebe, Urban Outfitters and The Discovery Channel Store.
Following an afternoon of shopping, guests can satisfy their appetites at one of the gourmet restaurants in Planet Hollywood, like the non-traditional approach to steakhouses at Strip House or check out the exotic Far East motif at KOI restaurant and lounge. And if guests are still looking for more, they can spend the after hours at Privé, Triq or Krave nightclubs.
Perhaps one of the resorts biggest attractions came in March with the addition of "Peepshow." The naughty twist on the story of Little Bo Peep is modern-day spin on the run-of-the-mill Vegas topless review. The "Peepshow" stage has seen visiting celebs like Scary Spice Mel B, "Dancing with the Stars" Kelly Monaco and Playboy's Holly Madison.
