Two teachers accused of having sex with a Basic High School student were reported to authorities by the ex-husband of one of the teachers, according to an arrest report.

Bambi Dewey, 32, and John Stalmach, 31, are accused of engaging in sex with the student, who was 16 at the time, at a home the couple shared in Henderson last December. Separately, Stalmach also is accused of having sex with the girl when Dewey was not present.

The arrest report, which details the Henderson Police investigation into the case, also revealed Stalmach previously had been accused in 2009 of improprieties with another freshman girl at Basic High School.

According to the report, Stalmach in 2009 was accused of texting the freshman and showing her pornographic pictures, although an investigation produced no evidence of a crime and Stalmach was not charged. Instead, he was issued a 20-day suspension and transferred to Daily Elementary School, where he is currently a physical education teacher.

According to the arrest report:

Dewey’s ex-husband tipped authorities to the new revelations. He told authorities he had heard from Dewey’s sister that Dewey and Stalmach had been engaging in three-way sex with a high school student.

The student initially denied having sex with Dewey and Stalmach but later admitted she was embarrassed about the acts and was afraid of her parents' reaction.

The student met the couple, whom she referred to as Ms. Dewey and Coach during the interview, when she was a student and they taught at Brown Middle School. The student told police she began spending time with the teachers out of school, including babysitting Dewey’s children and spending the night at the couple’s Henderson home.

The alleged sexual acts occurred during the 2011 Christmas break when the student was staying with the two teachers at their home. The three were drinking shots of whiskey before engaging in three-way sex.

Stalmach and the student also had sex in the home in January 2012 while Dewey was away.

In addition to drinking alcohol with the couple, the student said she smoked marijuana several times with Stalmach and Dewey, the report said.

Dewey and Stalmach denied any sexual relationship with the student or providing her alcohol and drugs, but Stalmach eventually admitted to having sex with the student, the report said.

The couple, who dated for several years, have since broken up because Stalmach would not commit to marriage, Dewey told police.

Both have been placed on leave without pay by the Clark County School District. They face felony charges of solicitation of a minor over the age of 14 for sex, and Stalmach faces an added charge of sexual conduct between a teacher and a student.

Dewey was released from custody on Tuesday on a $20,000 bond, and Stalmach is free after posting a $60,000 bond. Both are scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Oct. 1 in Henderson Justice Court.

  1. "The student initially denied having sex with Dewey and Stalmach but later admitted she was embarrassed about the acts and was afraid of her parents' reaction."

So the "victim" admitted it was consensual. Nevada's age of consent is 16. So where's the crime?

  2. @KillerB: I was curious about your comment so I looked up the HPD news release. They're charged with solicitation of a minor to commit a "crime against nature" because the minor and Ms. Dewey are both female. IANAL, but it would appear that she has a shot at beating the wrap on equal protection grounds; here's hoping that the public defender is incompetent.

zerstuckelung -- thanx for going the extra mile and getting that clarified. That any anti-homosexual laws are still on the books as crimes anywhere in this country is proof of the continuing, pervading and unConstitutional influence of religion on lawmaking. Especially after the U.S. Supremes laid that to rest nearly a decade ago--

"Held: the Texas statute making it a crime for two persons of the same sex to engage in certain intimate sexual conduct violates the Due Process Clause." -- Lawrence v. Texas, 539 U.S. 558, 564-579 (2003)

This all shows Nevada is more backwards than some of us may have thought. Certainly the Henderson police and Nevada criminal law is. What else can be expected from a state that amended its Constitution not long before this decision to exclude homosexuals from marrying? And where 14 years after another Constitutional amendment tasking the legislature to create the laws giving patients access to medicinal marijuana those laws have not been enacted?
