A family of seven was displaced by a Friday morning fire at an apartment near downtown Las Vegas, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Firefighters arrived around 8:45 a.m. at the Bonanza Garden Apartments, 2751 E. Bonanza Road, near Eastern Avenue, to find a ground-level apartment engulfed in fire, with flames extending out the window to the apartment above and an attic area, spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Firefighters put the fire out in less than two minutes and were able to stop it from spreading to the upstairs apartment, he said.

Two rooms of the ground-floor unit were heavily damaged and the rest of the unit sustained smoke damage, Szyamanski said. Total damages were estimated at $25,000.

The two adults and five children living in the apartment were displaced and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross, but no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire, which started in a bedroom, is still under investigation, Szymanski said.
