Air-conditioning problems to bring early end to day at NE valley elementary school

Gragson School

Students at Gragson Elementary in the northeast valley will be released early today due to an air-conditioning outage.

Clark County School District spokeswoman Melinda Malone said the problem was discovered at the school, located near Pecos Road and Bonanza Road, late Thursday and that crews had been working overnight to fix the problem.

The air conditioning was still out at the start of school Friday, and officials have decided to release students at 12:30 p.m. on a day when temperatures are forecast to reach triple digits.

In the meantime, the school’s approximately 850 students are being rotated through on-campus portable buildings with working air conditioning, Malone said.

Parents have been notified through the district's automated messaging system, Malone said.

The school will serve both breakfast and lunch, and students whose parents cannot pick them up early will be kept in the portable buildings during the afternoon, she said.

Gragson students who don’t attend class on Friday will be given an excused absence, Malone said.
