My 21-year-old is going to visit his girlfriend’s family in Arizona, and I had to photocopy his Consular Certificate of Birth Abroad and birth certificate.

He was born on an island in Micronesia. His mother is Micronesian and I am a U.S. citizen, which makes him a brown citizen of the United States. I have traveled through Asia and had guns pointed at me while being asked to produce my passport and visa. Is this the direction our country is heading? Do we really want to give this kind of authority to our police? We are on a slippery slope, and before it gets out of hand, we need to put an end to these discriminatory laws.

As a father, I am both embarrassed and sad to have to send my children off on a trip within their own country carrying their birth certificates.
