Pedestrian hit, killed
A 44-year-old man was killed when he was struck by an SUV on Saturday night, Metro Police said.
The crash occurred at 11:21 p.m. as a 2002 Ford Explorer traveled east on West Tropicana Avenue toward South Rainbow Boulevard, police said. The pedestrian was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when the Ford hit him.
The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Metro’s accident investigation section is investigating.
The man's death was the 79th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction in 2012.

Since there are so few "marked crosswalks" in the Las Vegas valley, I would question if he was crossing at an intersection. Accoding to state law, an intersection must be treated as a crosswalk.
If Vegas continues it's trend in traffic related fatalities this year we're likely to see about 120 traffic related deaths by the end of this year.
Anyone else think that's ridiculous?
Anyone considering stepping off the curb into traffic need only consider one thing: 45MPH = 66 feet per second.
