Accident scene

A minivan struck a 21-year-old man Wednesday morning in North Las Vegas, sending him to the hospital in critical condition, North Las Vegas Police said.

The accident occurred near West Craig Road and Clayton Street. Police said a 33-year-old Las Vegas man was driving his 1998 Winstar minivan southbound on Clayton Street. The man was attempting to turn left and hit the victim as he tried to cross Craig Road.

The victim suffered significant head trauma and was taken to University Medical Center, police said in a statement.

Police said it appeared the victim was in the crosswalk, but it was unclear whether he or the vehicle had right of way. Charges will be assessed once the investigation is completed.

Police said drugs or alcohol were not a factory in the accident.

Eastbound Craig Road was closed in the area until about 3 p.m. while the investigation continued, police said.
