Sports rivals make strange bedfellows

The winning caption for the October edition of the Smithereens Cartoon Caption Contest was “Honey, did I ever tell you I went to UNR?” submitted by Vegastony.

Marital problems? Or just opposites attract? Turns out that this UNLV Rebels fan is married to a UNR grad.

That's the result of the October edition of the Smithereens Cartoon Caption Contest, which featured a UNLV Rebels fan wearing a football helmet to bed. We asked readers to tell us what his wife is saying.

The winning caption: "Honey, did I ever tell you I went to UNR?"

Congratulations to user Vegastony, who got 41 percent of the vote. We will send you a signed copy of the cartoon with your caption.

Vegastony also took second place with 22 percent of the vote for "No, I absolutely refuse to call you Hey Reb in bed."

Third place goes to J Burdette for "Don't worry Honey, basketball season is almost here," which received 18.3 percent of the vote.

Murkam came in fourth with 16 percent of the vote for "The helmet's fine, but the cleats have gotta go."

And in fifth was Marcia Wiegand, with 4 percent of votes for "You're 35, it's time to graduate already!"
