Gov. Brian Sandoval is in Canada for a series of economic development meetings, his office said today.
Sandoval, whom polls show is the most popular politician in the state, left Monday in the early afternoon and will return Wednesday.
The Republican governor will not be at a rally with presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Wednesday, according to a Romney campaign official. Nor was he available to help rally supporters with Romney today in Henderson.
While Sandoval is out of the state, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki becomes acting governor. Krolicki attended today's Romney rally, along with Sen. Dean Heller and Rep. Joe Heck.
This is Sandoval's second official trip abroad in two months. In September, he led a trade mission to China and South Korea.

Open letter to Governor Sandoval:
Shame on you, Governor, for failing to actively demonstrate your support for Mitt Romney, the Republican Presidential candidate. I checked your websites again this morning to review your list of endorsements and it is glaringly absent of any mention of Romney. I found only one half-hearted reference to Romney in the form of your August 11, 2012, response to Romney's pick of Paul Ryan as his running mate -- but nothing on Romney. Your Twitter account included a few short tweets concerning Romney but nothing substantial. I am shocked and extremely disappointed that you have not put forth any effort to proactively campaign for Romney -- our only hope for America. Our State and our country are suffering terribly under the anti-American extremist policies of our current President and his regime. We need change; we need leadership; we need to return this country to the original philosophies and values of our Founding Fathers; we need to bring integrity back to the White House and to Washington, and we need to dilute the abusive power leveled against the American people by Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and other liberal Democrats. Thousands came out to support the Romney-Ryan team yesterday at the Henderson Pavilion and your absence was duly noted by all those in attendance. If Romney loses the critical swing State of Nevada and ultimately loses this critical national election, then I can't help but wonder if Nevadans will remember your apathetic and meek stance towards this crucial Presidential election when it comes time for your re-election in 2014.
