Zombie Apocalypse

The scarification of downtown Las Vegas, which already includes haunted attractions in at least two casinos, will take another twist Halloween night with a horror fantasy in downtown’s most photographed alley.

With support from Zappos, “Zombie Apocalypse” will be a one-night-only affair in the east-to-west alley that runs from Las Vegas Boulevard to Sixth Street between Fremont Street and Carson Avenue.

Chris Ramirez, producer and founder of Silver State Production Services, is creating the attraction, which he says will be akin to going to an attraction at Universal Studios.

“We’ll take you into a scene from a movie,” Ramirez said.

The scene will be an evacuation zone in a militarized area chock-full of zombies. Military escorts will guide customers through the zone.

Special effects will be created by Nick Benson, whose movie credits include “Tremors,” “Nightmare on Elm Street 4” and “Bride of Re-Animator.” Pyrotechnics will be in the hands of Skip Burrows, who has several movies to his credit, including “21.”

Ramirez said he will employ a crew of 25, as well as 20 actors plus 30 to 40 extras who will play zombies.

Zombie Apocalypse will run from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Oct. 31 in the alley, which is favored by local photographers for its gritty, urban look. The entrance fee will be $15.
