Woman, 75, hit by car downtown is in critical condition

A 75-year-old woman was struck by a car while walking in a crosswalk at Las Vegas Boulevard and Bridger Avenue about 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Metro Police officials said the woman was crossing Las Vegas Boulevard when a man driving a Chevrolet Impala turned left from Bridger Avenue and hit her. He was on his way to the Las Vegas Go-Low Tour car show at Cashman Center. The woman was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition. Officials said the crash is under investigation to determine whether the woman had the right-of-way to cross the street. There is no indication ...

  1. I am very sorry for this lady and hope she recovers. My comment is not intended to reflect on her but...I just returned home from 4 days there in Las Vegas, staying downtown at the Golden Nugget again. I cannot tell you how many times I saw pedestrians, and not all tourist, ignore traffic signals and vehicles without regard to their personal safety. In the course of those four days, I had pedestrians step off the curb in front of me at lease three times, without regard to the signal.

  2. Last time I checked pedestrians always have the right of way. It's called a life.

  3. Sorry Ashley, but in Nevada the law states that pedestrians have responsibility to observe when they can or can't legally cross. If she stepped out in front of moving traffic against the signal, then it would be her fault, even if she was in a marked crosswalk.

    That's why the authorities need to determine the facts, it's not automatically the driver's fault.
