Jim Lehrer as the presidential debate moderator did not maintain any control over his purported time clock, was an ineffective leader in controlling Mitt Romney’s interruptions, was not impartial, and did not represent a fair and level playing field. He was on the same level as the “substitute referees” that called the Green Bay Packers-Seattle Seahawks game.
He should be replaced by a professional who is able to control himself and who exhibits equal opportunity for all. What ever happened to American inclusion for all presidential contenders? Libertarian Gary Johnson was left out of the discussion, and, thus, we never got to enjoy true representative government at the debate.
Thank God for UNLV and its “courtyard free speech” zones. At least Johnson was treated fairly there.

Moderators in debates are like referees in sporting events. They serve best when you don't see and hear them.

I got left out of the debate, too! How come I didn't get invited????!!!!??? Dang it! We will never get true representative government at the debate.
Why don't we all just admit our biased nature when it comes to politics. I'm voting Democrat, so I thought the moderator during the Obama / Romney debate did a poor job of controlling Romney. However, during the Biden / Ryan debate, I thought the moderator did a fantastic job in letting Biden run all over Ryan.
Mr. Chapline well put. It is similar to an umpire making a bad call in a crucial game. If the call goes against your team you are irate. If it goes for your team you are usually silent. The umpires in the Tigers game last night were great, the Tigers won!!!!!!
So, it's Lehrer who actually lost the debate - not the guy with the Cheshire Cat grin, Osama Obama? Dumbocrats simply cannot take personal responsibility for anything they do unless it puts them in a good light. A classic example was Ted "Lady Killer" Kennedy - the coward who ran away and left Mary Jo Kopeckne to drown. Womanizer, alcoholic, Dumbocratic super star - all rolled into one. That he was elected and relected tells us more about the character, morals and ethics about the folks in Massachusetts then it does about the low-life himself. Gee, I wonder how he's enjoying his stay in Hell?
Lehrer was at a disadvantage from the beginning. Stuck in his "foxhole" like Kilroy in WWII, he had the two candidates towering over him at podiums. Romney ran amuck, and Lehrer never recovered. The VP debate put the candidates and the moderator at face to face level, at a table, with all parties in close proximity to each other. Then Biden proceeded to school RyAYN on every topic. An adult talking to a clueless child. He did it with humor, grace and most of all, facts. Something the Romney campaign has a distinct aversion to.
Mr. Lind how's about the fact that Biden lied when he said that the people in Libya never asked for more security. Did that escape you or do you really think that those Americans were murdered because of a movie or that the hearings in Congress with sworn testimony is false. Clueless is my only though at this point.
Regardless of the moderator I thought Mitt Romney illustrated a great dominance over Obama. Obama has a bad product to sell and Romney has a better product. Obama feared Romney's superiority and next Tuesday night Romney will again spank the President. Romney is a REAL leader and Obama is merely a rock star.
chuck333: The issue was who knew what when. Biden stated that the white house was not advised of any request(s) for additional security prior to the incident in Benghazi. The state department is directly responsible for security at embassies / consulates, not the white house. I find it laughable that you are incensed over 4 lives in Libya, but ignore 4k plus lives lost in Iraq, and over 2k lost in Afghanistan. Where are your priorities Mr. Patriot? You make me sick to my stomach with your lack of common sense. Your hero Reagan squandered over 200 Marines in Beirut with his BS foreign policy decision to insert our nose in a place where it wasn't wanted. So, 4 people lost their lives in service to their country in Benghazi, Libya. Is there some comparison you're trying to make, or just more knee jerk GOP crap during an election? Which is it.
Biden schooled Ryan on every topic?...Oh you mean by Biden interrupting Ryan 87 times and the woman moderator wouldn't let Ryan finish most of his answers...I wonder what debate Mr Lind was watching...
Re Burrittobandit2: Biden took a page out of the Romney meth head playbook: don't let your opponent jump you no matter what. Jam him all the time, and make YOUR point! What did you do, put a stopwatch on the totals? Give me a break. Biden won, RyAYN lost, just as a politically naive punk should have.

I have to agree. A moderator has a responsibility to the voters, and each candidate. Otherwise, why bother to have a moderator?

You clearly don't know, or more correctly, don't understand the importance of presidents telling the truth to the American people. There were no murders and loss of any lives in Watergate. Yet, it cost President Nixon his political career. It was the coverup that did him in not the event itself. Why? Do you think you can figure it out now?
