Mitt Romney’s Big Bird swipe during Wednesday’s debate raised some hackles: PBS’, many on social media and mine. Romney told the debate moderator, Jim Lehrer: “I’m sorry, Jim. I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I’m going to stop other things. I like PBS. I love Big Bird. I actually like you, too. But I’m not going to — I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for it.” Those are fighting words. Social media, and others, exploded in Big Bird’s defense. On a good note, with the impending demise of the yellow buzzard by the words spoken by Governor Romney, sales of Big Bird have gone skyward and beyond. By most accounts, they have been record breaking. Kiddies are crying out: All I want for Christmas is Big Bird. And adults are accomodating them.
