Kaitlyn Ferguson, who has spent all 25 of her years in Minneapolis, Minn., and yearns to spread the word of God, is taking her first walk along the Las Vegas Strip. Her eyes dart in every direction. She sees the Guatemalans slapping leaflets hawking call girls. She sees the mobile billboards promising naked women direct to hotel rooms. And everywhere around her is a world of gluttony and debauchery, framed in bright primary colors. Ferguson thinks this might be the perfect place to develop her preaching skills. “I don’t think I could have chosen a better place if I tried,” ...

"...her biggest challenge may be going from the classroom to reality,"
Sin is not defined in reality. Should Kaitlyn wish to remain challenged and employed, it's better to stay in the classroom.
"Kaitlyn Ferguson, who has spent all 25 of her years in St. Paul, Minn., and yearns to spread the word of God, is taking her first walk along the Las Vegas Strip."
Sooner or later this Dorothy will learn she's not in Kansas anymore.
"Religion is like a lift in your shoe. If it helps you stand up straighter and walk a little better, good for you! But don't you go and try to put your lifts in my shoes, and for crying out loud, let's stop sending missionaries to Africa to nail the lifts to the natives' bare feet!" -- the late, great George Carlin on Saturday Night Live, Premiere Episode
I moved from a Minnesota farm to Las Vegas 30 years ago. It took me 2 days to fall in love with the city.
Kaitlyn will find that this is not the "sin city" that everyone talks about. Why would we all make this oasis our home if it was?
Kaitlyn, welcome to Las Vegas, may you find your new home a heart warming and welcoming place.
As the we learned from the McAuliffe tragedy...certain individuals fall to temptation. She seems like she has a good head on her shoulders and hopefully the congregation can guide her as she intends to guide them.
She's hardly going to do ministry in "Sin City" since most of her congregation (if not all) are from the gated communities of Anthem.
RobRBarron,
I understand your point -- Anthem is hardly the Strip. But too often, I think, we forget that gambling addictions, alcoholism, depression and stress come home to roost in our neighborhoods. People in need of support live throughout the Las Vegas valley; they are our neighbors, friends, family. They may live downtown -- and in Anthem, Green Valley, Southern Highlands and Summerlin. Gates don't protect us.

Kailyn's no dummy. She has something many of us seem to lack gratitude for life...and so I give you my favorite prayer from Ted Loder
Oh God, complete the work you have begun in me.
Release through me a flow of mercy and gentleness that will bring
water where there is desert,
healing where there is hurt,
peace where there is violence,
beauty where there is ugliness,
justice where there is brokenness,
beginnings where there are dead-ends.
Waken in me
gratitude for MY life,
love for every living thing,
joy in what is human and holy,
praise for you.
Renew my faith that you are God
beyond my grasp but within my reach;
past my knowing, but within my searching
Disturber of the assured, Assurer of the disturbed;
Destroyer of illusions, Creator of dreams;
source of silence and music
sex and solitude,
light and darkness, death and life.
O Keeper of Promises, Composer of Grace,
grant me glee in my blood, prayer in my heart,
trust in my core, songs for my journey
and a sense of your kingdom
One of my new favorite son-writer/singers is featured here with his 'Satan and St. Paul' song.

Religious preachures don't belong in LV.
LV is what it is. Going around and trying to make
people feel guilty about having fun is wrong.
Promising people that when they die - they will get their reward is the biggest scam on the 99% of all.
Rich people know it is a scam and don't waste their time on such illusions.
More people have died due to religious wars than any other reason for conflict.
As Napoleon said "Religion is the reason why the poor don't kill the rich."
Good Luck Las Vegas is a great Boot Camp.
Maybe she can start in the Churches and turn over some money hats, or cups or baskets or candles, or beads or water or whatever the *hail they are using today to exact "Money" from the good people. Don't get me Wrong I'm a bible based person, But today's churches are about money,money, and more money.
I not saying, I'm just saying.
Science > god
@ Tom G.
Tom, you are correct, a lot of addiction is hidden behind the veil of a supposed "successful" life. So it is true there is "sin" in Anthem, just like there is in the "homeless corridor" neighborhood. The difference is that "drunks" on skid row often know they are drunks, whereas the Anthem "drunks" are often in full denial.
When I visit Vegas I will stay 8 to 9 days and I don't gamble on sundays. As a matter of fact I once attended services at a chapel inside the Riviera. I also checked on this tidbit that at one time there were more Churches in Clark County NV. Than in Los Angeles CA. ie. Sin city
