In the wake of the presidential debate last week and the various attack ads that dominate the airwaves in Nevada, let’s take a second to talk about issues. You know, the things that will matter when the successful candidates take office. Where they stand on the issues is important because it will determine what they will try to do in office. However, the issues, like the facts, have been brushed aside by too many candidates and their campaigns. Consider Neil Newhouse, Mitt Romney’s pollster, who last month dismissed the independent groups examining the veracity of the campaigns by saying, “We’re ...

Well it looks like the LVSun has taken up where Obama got debunked.
Obama kept making up his own facts and just as quickly Romney debunked them in front of 65 million people. Romney was in command of the facts and Obama could not respond.
One point was that Obama's lied about a fictious $5 trillion dollar tax hike was totally refuted. Obama sent Cutter out afterward and admitted that Romney was correct.
Now the Sun comes out with the same wild statements debunked in in the debate. In their paper space they can not be responded to like in the debate.
How about discussng the feasibility of a global economy? We hold a half century of experience at unsuccessfully attempting to compensate for lack of forced reiprocation in our economy and have created environment of excessive risk, large debt and disruption to many millions of families. In recognition of this along with the history of nations of the world how might one muster belief in achieving reciprocaton necessary to sustain a global economy? Or doesn't one need faith, just large media ownership and recognized opportunity?
Throughout this presidential campaign the extreme right of the Republican Party, with extreme talk radio, cable news, opinion news, and the talking heads have continually distorted the truth, the facts, as any reasonable person would understand or perceive to be the truth, based on actions, history, and words.
Take the poll numbers for example. All year long the Republican party and Fox News have accepted the polls, even their own polls. However, now that the polls are showing President Obama distancing himself from Mitt Romney in the swing States, the polls are no longer acceptable. Even their own! Or, the jobs numbers released by the Bureau Of Labor(BLS)on Friday 10/05/12 showing the unemployment down from 8.1% to 7.8% are being challenged by Welch and the extreme Allen West and others from the fringe Republican party.
The only facts you can rely on is information we as individuals believe in based on our values of what we perceived to be reasonable and fair. We must do our homework and evaluate information coming from places generally considered reliable and consistence, in a track record in practice of high standards.
What we are seeing outright coming from Mitt Romney, the Republican Party, and from Fox News, is a campaign of Lies, Distortions, and Misleading Statements all designed to confuse and misleading the voters who are undecided or easily lead, or just plain misinformed on the issues this country is facing.
The Chairman of the Republican Party hires a firm to do voter registration for the Republican Party. Hire one firm to do voter registration throughout the USA, and this firm is involved in illegal activity, violating voter registration laws in several States. The only firm, hired by the Republican Party...the only firm to do voter registration for the Republican Party. This firm is now under investigation for voter fraud.
This President campaign lead by Mitt Romney is a fraud against the American People. Reasonable people are coming out against it. Reasonable people are being informed on the facts. Reasonable people are speaking out by moving polls numbers and businesses are hiring which has lowered the unemployment rate.
President Obama wins re-election by 6 to 8 points.
Since when is a conclusion a "fact" and if someone disagrees then they are a "liar"?
Example 1: If the government pays doctors less for a procedure, is it a "lie" to suspect that the doctors won't provide as much of the service? Is it true that reducing payments to doctors doesn't change the benefit, because the doctor could still do the procedure anyway?
Example 2: Is it true when Obama interprets an "independent study" and concludes in his ads that Mitt Romney wants to raise taxes on the middle class to pay for a tax cut for the rich when the people who made the study say that is only one of several possible outcomes and that it is also possible to keep taxes paid by the rich the same and lower the marginal rates by eliminating or capping deductions without increasing taxes on the middle class. If there is a lie, it is in misrepresenting Romney's plan and pretending the study attacks it.
Conclusions are not "facts" and people who call others liars who don't agree with their conclusions are the actual liars.
For a brief summary of where the candidates stand on key issues:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/19857055
Romney also said that President Obama, Reid and Nancy crammed through health care without a single bipartisan vote. Had the President, Harry or Nancy possessed any leadership skills they would not have done that. Romney is right.
Another newspaper in Las Vegas has it's top columnist agree with the claim that: "the unemployment numbers are rigged." Every nut view from talk radio and the Internet is now echoed in the supposed main stream media.
Can the Obama supporters agree that Obama does not want to end the Bush tax cuts, just the parts he does not like? In other words Bush helped many middle class people in his term. with tax cuts.
Can we also agree if he had all 12 years of those cuts now, from everyone, it would barely pay 1 year of his deficit. So if he just goes after parts of it that means the income is not going to be that big. That is is plan?
Petef: Obama DOES want to end the Bush tax cuts. He wanted only one more year and then we will all be "ECONOMIC PATRIOTS" so he can send more money to the third world--income redistribution per treaties they are working on now.
During the debate...an Earth shattering 90 mins according to the GOP....Mitt had pep in his step, sparkle in his eyes, and bullsh*t on his tongue.
Now the GOP denial has gone into 5th gear. Deny Evolution, deny The Big Bang, deny climate change, deny the birth certificate, deny polls, deny jobs numbers, deny the Tea Party is just the more outspoken racist wing of the Repubs, deny Romney lies about his lies he lied about. Denydenydeny....GOP=Denial bubble.
Obama throws around trillion dollar debit figures like the rest of us count our pocket cash. Fact check, this dude is a total failure.
Romney has said he supported a 20% across the board tax cut...that is a fact. 20% of a 35% tax rate is much more than 20% of a 15% tax rate...arithmatic. So his tax cut favors the rich.
Then he said it would be revenue neutral because he would end deductions and loop holes, without being specific (if he ended them all it would not cover the revenue loss) Then he said he would cap deductions at $17,000, but his people quickly made it clear it was a graduated change. (to satisfy his rich doners) In the debate he denied the $5 trillion tax cut (it's only $4.8?) He says he would repeal Obamacare, yet keep the parts he likes (why not just change what you don't like instead of pretending to want to replace it). He said he would repeal Dodd Frank, but admitted we need some regulation of Wall Street...again why not fix what we have rather than pretend to replace it. The climate in congress well not allow anything to replace either bill...Romney has jumped over the fence of all the issues to many times for anyone to trust what he says. Can't vote for a man who changes what he says he thinks, what he says he wants to do or just won't be open on the questions the voters ask.
In front of a few people with Millions of dollars he throws 47% under the bus.
In front of millons of people with a few dollars he says he well protect the 47%.
I believe what he said to the rich when he didn't know we were listening.
"The Chairman of the Republican Party hires a firm to do voter registration for the Republican Party. Hire one firm to do voter registration throughout the USA, and this firm is involved in illegal activity, violating voter registration laws in several States. The only firm, hired by the Republican Party...the only firm to do voter registration for the Republican Party. This firm is now under investigation for voter fraud."
A person more paranoid than me would say they couldn't find any voter fraud, so they had to hire someone to commit it, thereby justifying their legislation to restrict voting.
The bottom line is this......
NEVER, EVER vote for greedy, lying heartless
republicans.
These republicans have NEVER been worse.
WE'RE KEEPING PRESIDENT OBAMA!
As the editor asks what philosophy is the best course?
Both have short term good and bad points.. but which leads us to a SUSTAINABLE future ?
The reason I emphasize this is because if its not sustainable it is not a future! The nature of a future is that it can be sustained! This requires investments in alternative energy as FOSSIL fuels are not sustainable since they are FOSSIL. It means investment in education especially math and science ! Not magic creationism! Creationism has not solved any problems of future energy, food or really anything! It does have nice pictures of us riding Dinosaurs! I do not apologize to any one for the lunacy of these people! When they solve a problem that we face in the future with their theory then we may consider their ideas.
Contrary to what you hear from R politicians .. Fossil fuels are running out.. There is a reason for the prices being this high and going higher.. and it isn't just wall street. We already picked the low hanging fruit. the easy oil.. now we have to go after the more difficult oil.. in deep water.. polar regions.. tar sands... it cost much much more to get this oil.. and there is less of it... so you pay more at the pump. Contrary to Mitt .. the US will never be energy independent in Fossil fuels... we don't have that much.. we use 19 million barrels of oil a day at current consumption.. we produce about 6 million in actual crude oil.. they throw in lease condensate, and other sudo oils to bring the figure up closer to 9.. but the reality is we are never going to produce 19 million barrels a day... Saudi Arabia only produces 10 million and they are the largest producer in the world.
Green energy combined with our FOSSIL energy is our only future! If we don't invest in Green energy then we will have to buy the technology or ENERGY from China since they are investing billions! IS this the future you want? No domestic alternative energy because it is and I quote the posters on this forum "NOT COMPETITIVE WITH GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZED FOSSIL FUELS"?? Are we that Stupid! Really??
From reading the posters in this forum ... YES WE ARE!
GOD SAVE US FROM OURSELVES!
one poster gives a link to the uk and thats a fact check.
here's facts:
Unemployment= 11%-15%
Debt= $16 Trillion and counting
Foreign policy= Mid East is in a chambles
Illegals are running amok and every thing thats propsed to stop it is shot down by this administration.
As a true moderate, who has voted for both Reagan and Clinton in my lifetime, here is what I took from the debate as a neutral observer.
Romney did well on the economy as he should have. Obama inherited this mess, partially caused by Bush's spend and borrow policies, , but Obama has failed to improve in this area. How much the Republicans' expressed desire to see Obama fail, and thus their constant non-compromise, is food for talk for another time.
Romney showed just how out of touch he actually is with the middle class and the health care crisis. Romney talked about the boards making decisions on how health care would be applied to a person. This is already done now, they are called insurance companies. Romney spoke about how if someone didn't like their health provider they could just use his voucher elsewhere. Apparently Romney is completely olivious how health insurance companies deal with pre-exisiting conditions or how they limit lifetime benefits.
Romney came acoss as wanting to open up virtually all American areas to oil exploration. Apparently at the implied elimination of any development of alternative energy sources. Sounds like a money making strategy with no eye to the future as to dealing with eventually finite resources.
Little true plans were revealed as to how any areas of disagreement would be corrected by either man. Quit telling us what you are "going" to do and strat telling us how exactly you are going to fix the problems. If cuts are to be made, tell us where.
I personally do not want to see another increase in defense spending when internally this country is suffering greatly. No monetary gain is ever seen by the boots on the ground but instead the defense contractors are the benificiaries. Romney said he will increase defense spending. I don't necessarily want a defense spending cut but do not want an increase so this is a concern as to what else would be cut to help with this increase.
I think Romney came across as less extreme than he has shown in the past and this has to help him with most Americans. Most Americans are not on the extreme fringes.
ANSWER THIS:
No one has closed the loopholes or raised the taxes on the wealthy YET.
Mitt says by keeping THOSE taxes low, it produce jobs.
WELL, WHERE IN THE HELL ARE THE JOBS??? THE WEALTHY CORPORATIONS AND THE RICH HAVE HAD 12 YEARS TO PRODUCE THEM!
ANSWER Mr Kircher,
The jobs are in China, India, Mexico......Everywhere that those so called " Job Creators " continue to send them.
While I'm sure most of the questions the Sun asks could easily be answered by Gov Romney, why didn't the President ask them? He had more than enough time. He seemed woefully unprepared or inadequate to the task, unable to correct/confront Romney OR defend his own administration's performance. The Dems need to put forward an agenda for the next four years and then sell it -- attack ads aren't going to cut it. (And "Save Big Bird", while cute, isn't going to convince many people to jump onboard what may be another "train to nowhere"!)
Unemployment is now 7.8% with PRESIDENT OBAMA.
And will keep going down.
Romney is the biggest flip-flopper of all time
and can NEVER BE TRUSTED.
He'll be a puppet for the same bush/cheney
republicans who will be pulling the strings in
the background.
We can't afford to go back to those horrible
bush/cheney/republican years.
Americans can't be that stupid.
FOUR MORE YEARS FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!
If 12 years is your timetable, then 2000, tech bubble burst and 2006, housing market bubble burst. Back to back financial calamities on a huge scale. With corresponding free falls in markets around the world topped off with government insolvencies among the European Union, a trading partner that consumes 20 percent of USA exports on a yearly basis.
CarmineD
Romney is simply a flim flam man, completely devoid of principles, who will do or say ANTHING to get elected. A simple test, can anyone imagine Obama changing his stance on Roe V. Wade to pander to the cameras? NEVER! It's breathtaking that a as a Bishop in the Mormon Church that Romney would be so devoid of principles.
The problem with the writer's article is in the headline. Replace the question mark with a period and it will be a true statement.
