Two popular Strip headliner magicians have put any competition aside to team up in a partnership to benefit Las Vegas children this Christmas. This has the makings of a new Abbott & Costello, Laurel & Hardy, Smothers Brothers or Martin & Lewis!
Magic circles are abuzz that Luxor headliner Criss Angel (Cirque du Soleil’s “Believe”) and MGM Grand headliner David Copperfield, who perform opposite each other on Las Vegas Boulevard, are likely to join forces. It’s still a mystery as to whom reached out to the other first, but I can tell you that it’s been an off-and-on conversation for a while that came to fruition over the weekend.
Two private Twitter exchanges wrapped up the deal Sunday when within one hour, Criss tweeted: “Great -- let’s plan something for kids around Christmastime,” and David replied: “Sounds great. Would love to. Let’s figure something out.”
I spoke with both magic superstars this morning.
Criss told me: “I do hope we can make it happen because we could do a lot of good and lead by example. David and I both believe we can accomplish many positive things, which could impact kids that are in need beyond just raising money.”
David told me: “Criss and I are not rivals. We are both part of the MGM Resorts family. I would love to make a few surprise, secret visits to hospitals with Criss this holiday season. No cameras, no publicity for us, just some real magic for the kids.”
This teaming between Criss and David, who graces the cover of Stan Allen’s latest edition of his Las Vegas-based Magic Magazine -- is fast on the heels of the recent sleep battle between Criss and Flamingo headliner magician Nathan Burton, who lost a $10,000 bet for charity to see which illusionist would fall asleep first.
