One dies when car crashes into light pole

Police have reported one fatality after a vehicle carrying three people hit a light pole Friday night.

The accident happened around 9 p.m. at North Maryland Parkway and East Bonanza Road, Metro Police Lt. Roger Price said.

According to a Metro Police news release, North Las Vegas resident Diego Rubio-Rodriguez, 21, was driving north on Maryland Parkway when he lost control of the car, which slid onto the median. The right side of the car crashed into the light pole.

All three were taken to University Medical Center, where one passenger was pronounced dead. Rubio-Rodriguez and passenger Heriberto Lopez-Regalado, 21, remain in serious condition at the hospital.

Metro Police are investigating the crash.
