A construction worker killed Wednesday on Interstate 15 died of blunt-force trauma when guardrails he was helping load onto a truck fell on him, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Michael Angelo Garcia, 26, of Las Vegas, said the Clark County Coroner’s Office, which released the cause of death.
Garcia had been working on a Nevada Department of Transportation road maintenance project repairing highway guardrails near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said Garcia was helping load the guardrails onto a truck when they fell and crushed him.
NDOT spokesman Damon Hodge said Garcia worked for a contracted construction company and was not an NDOT employee.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
