Secession signers near 1 million nationwide

In the three weeks since President Barack Obama’s re-election victory, his most ardent foes — nearly 1 million people from all 50 states — have signed online petitions to take their opposition to the extreme: seceding from the United States. They’re doing it on the White House’s “We the People” website, taking advantage of a pledge to review any petition that gains at least 25,000 signatures. Texas was far ahead of the pack with 117,648 digital signatures on its petition by midday Tuesday. Nevada’s petition had 10,561 signers. “Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is ...

  1. I say, to these sorry "Teabaggers"; let us for once give them what they are asking for. They are surely not careful in what they are asking for, so let us give them exactly what they are demanding.

Paul VanDevelder's Sun Article "One nation -- but maybe not so indivisible" laid out the property settlement perfectly.

  2. Deport them!

If any US land is given up, it should go back to the Native people we stole it from, not to these treasonous, childish fit throwers!

  3. In my younger years I was lead to believe America was the freest country in the world. Only countries like Korea, Cuba, China, Russia and Germany fenced their people in.

  4. Teabaggers seems to have such a dire view of the country, at odds with reality, that maybe they'd be happier to copy the lemming: gather up and jump off of something. Then we can get on with solving problems instead of pounding fists and shrieking.

  5. Oh, please, Bradley. I've read your posts for sometime now and, as they say in jolly old England, "You seem to be an intelligent chap." This isn't about secession, at all. It's about folks showing their distaste for Osama Obama, his fellow travelers and where they are trying to take this country - down the toilet! It's also about freedom; freedom of speech and freedom of dissension. Surely you are for freedom. I know that by what you have posted in the past, so lighten up, have an egg nog (alcohol free, of course) and enjoy the holiday season and the spirit it brings, buddy.

  6. The census says the population of Texas is 25,674,681 as of 2011.

What portion of this total Texas population does 117,648 represent and why is this: "The White House website does have a few kinks. There's no way of verifying the residence or even the identity of any petition signers, and indeed among those who have signed onto the Texas secession drive, there appear to be as many who say they live outside the Lone Star State as in it." the last paragraph of this article?

How many people have signed more than one of these petitions for different states? People, please leave being a fruitcake to the dessert for the holiday.

  7. With the exception of Texas and Florida most of the states listed suck more off the Federal money than they contribute.

They are costing the rest of us Billions each year for their way of life. Maybe they should start carrying their own weight before deciding they want to take their state and leave.

As shown, most of those signing are not even from the states they are singing on. Funny how many people signed for Texas to leave this great country. That should tell the people of Texas that many are ready for you to get out. :)

  8. Sadly, a small percentage from the losing party remains in the Bubble with the intent acting extreme to get attention. Sadly, many in the Republican Party chose to remain in a state of ignorance.

Normally, when uninformed people are supporting unreasonable acts, there is a puppet master, a Bubble Master at the helm, leading the uniformed people to take unreasonable actions.

It's safe to say many of the petition signers are receiving or relying on some kind of Federal or State government assistance. Be it, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Unemployment assistance, or Food Stamps.

The Puppet Master that is responsible for organizing this petition drive is using the petition signers to make a self-serving point. Many of the petition signers don't mind being using to express their bias and prejudices against President Obama. Either way, if that's how they feel, please return the free stuff your currently getting from the government you so dislike.

Oh, and leave the key and close the door when you leave. Thank you!

  9. I have a suggestion. When Texas secedes, they need to remove the slogan from the Dallas Cowboys football team...."America's team." Because clearly that won't be the case anymore. Just tryin' to help here....

  10. I agree with renomuse, ship them up and deport their sorry butts. Lets see how they like it.

  11. Read somewhere that some are trying to get up a new continental congress, a new declaration of independence and a new constitution--to take back the nation for AMERICANS.

  12. What "Americans" are you talking about. Oh, you mean WHITE Americans..I get it, its a racist thing!

Seriously, if there was ever any doubt that these Teabaggers weren't primarily motivated by racism, now you have your proof folks.

If they would ALL move to say, Texas, and would form the Racist States of America (RSA), I would let them go and secede. Their constitution would be the silliest most ignorant document in the history of this planet. These ignorant people would lose their voice in our national political conversation, and the rest of us would be much better for it. Maybe the RSA's motto would be "Ignorance is Strength".

  13. In reply to Jerry Fink; I too have known you for quite some time here in these Las Vegas Sun discussion rooms. There are a good many of your frustrations politically that I truly understand. On some of them, I even wholeheartedly agree with you. When it comes to you personally, Jerry, I'm able to look past the political insults and character assassinations and see there is an intelligent man, who has always been a hardworking dedicated American.

There is no doubt as a businessman who you have risked all in your private ventures that people on the other side of the political spectrum should respect about you. There is no doubt you are an absolute credit and necessity to America's system of "free enterprise" when looking at small businesses.

However, when it comes to the TEA Party, they should not register threats that they are not ready, willing and able to carry out. Hands down, President Obama is a much more tolerant person than I am. But, even our President of the United States should not be pushed too far.

For myself Jerry, I have been threatened in one way or another many times throughout my life. When I have reached that plateau of, "enough is enough", I have called on for the threats against me to become active and left those no choice but to attempt to follow-through on those threats. I can honestly say, not one has ever said in the end that the particular threats made against me were worth it. In other words, for those who registered threats they never in the first place intended to carry out, it all turned out very bad for them.

This is exactly my point with the "TEA-baggers" threatening ssecession from the Union.

  14. Notacon,

Below is a perspective in 1850. As you can see there is little change as to how the country votes and attitudes of today.

    In 1850 (15) FREE STATES-
Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

    In 1850 (15) SLAVE STATES-
Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama.

  15. Is secession talk serious or just the whines of spoiled brats who have nothing positive to add to our society?

Losing sucks and elections have consequences -- what else is new? Here's the most important question: Is our extreme right-wing politicians learning? The legitimate, God-intended answer is a resounding No!, they're still incredibly dumb and will stay that way until they turn off four-time divorced woman-hater Ruse Limbauh, and then tell Norquist to go drown himself in the nearest bathtub.

Romney's final vote total is 47% and moochers everywhere are still smiling three weeks after the election. In fact, Democrats are having so much fun so they'll never allow their incompetent opponents to just take their ball and go home to momma (by seceding).

  16. They should be jailed, have all their property and assets seized by the government, then shipped to the "less-government" is better country of Somalia.

  17. This just goes to show that there are people who hate the president more than they love the country. There probably isn't a single state that could survive as an independent country. This speaks to the hatred of those behind it.

  18. Our Country: Love it or leave it.

  19. Truthserum,

So, do you want a Republican President, or is it a person of different color or ethnic background you prefer?

You would want to come back and be part of the US Government if you can change the person in the White House? Is that how you would proceed? Why would the US government want you back if you want to leave know?

Your racist is oozing out uncontrollably. You need to pray my friend.

  20. I have no interest in signing one of these petitions. However, I'm wondering whether the partisan hacks here decrying those who signed the petitions were equally vocal in their disdain after the 2004 election, when prominent liberals were advocating that blue states secede after John Kerry lost to George W. Bush:

  22. The states all have something in common. Most sit in a position to be heavily damaged by hurricanes. The others sit in tornado alley. I wonder how many have refused government help in the past after one of the above stated natural disasters, which most scientists say will get much worse in the future. I wonder how Texas or Louisiana would fare paying their own 100 billion dollar bill to clean up after a hurricane.

  23. @Longtimevegan:

you can't play the race card with me

    i'm not white.

you and your communist ilk try and paint the opposition as racist but in the end you will all fail miserably.

Obama is a communist. from your comments here and in the past i think you are, too.

perhaps you should vist the rest of the earth more often

  30. "nearly 1 million people from all 50 states" is what, about 0.3% of the US population? This is news?

  31. 1 million people who don't know where they are; 1 million people who have no plan of where they are going.

Why should they secede? They are in the middle of 150 million who share the same status. Have you been to Walmart lately?
