Man working to fix guardrail killed on I-15

A construction worker died on Wednesday in an industrial accident on Interstate 15 near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway while working on a road maintenance project.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said the man had been assisting with loading equipment when he was injured and died. Nevada Highway Patrol received reports of the incident around 8:20 a.m.

Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Damon Hodge said the man was working on an NDOT road maintenance project to repair a guardrail, but he was not an NDOT employee.

Hixson said I-15 south near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been reduced to one lane. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
