An alleged drunken driver crashed into multiple cars and a bus stop near Sahara Avenue and Jones Boulevard on Saturday. Metro Police officials said the man was driving a white Porsche past 2550 S. Jones Boulevard around 11 a.m. when it crashed into multiple cars. The Porsche then crashed into the bus stop when he tried to drive away. The driver was taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries and will be booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Officials said the man was believed to be driving while intoxicated. No one else was injured in the crash, officials ...

Crashing into a bus shelter, under the influence or careless driving, should require an automatic ten year license suspension.
There's just a subset of the population that doesn't get it and never will. They are the Gary Hosey's of the world..and this person.
The criminal justice system should not be based on chance, yet this incident is a prime example of how it is. The driver in this case is alleged to have done the exact same thing as Hosey: drove into a bus shelter while intoxicated. Yet simply because of dumb luck he will not face a multi-million dollar bond. Hosey did want to run down people waiting for a bus, any more than this guy. So why are the two identical actions treated so entirely different simply because of something beyond either driver's control?
i guess like @demforlife said this stupidity will never end in vegas .people drink all day in this town putting citizens in jeopardy .i remeber when a customer from the gold coast was sitting at a stop across from the rio .a car ran a red light going south and the car traveling east on flamingo hit ramming the car into the stop .the poor man never had a chance . the powers that be in this city will never put dui stops by casinos like they should because it is bad for business . sad !!!!
"Crashing into a bus shelter, under the influence or careless driving, should require an automatic ten year license suspension."
Because bus shelters and those who use them are more important than others?
Drunk at 11:00 in the morning...and driving a Porsche. Pathetic loser.
This article is not complete without pics of the smashed Porsche.
Start charging these drunk drivers with premeditated murder when they drive drunk and kill someone - yes, I did say PREMEDITATED because like it or not - when they CHOOSE to DRINK AND DRIVE that is a form of premeditation... at least in MY book it is. This problem will never go away because the Court system here just gives them a slap on the wrist and sends them on their merry, drunken way....
It's amazing how incorrect the media portrays a story. Was a police report not available? There were about 20 around the scene after the guy crashed.
The real events: I was behind the guy and saw the entire thing. The guy was driving a white Hyundi Genesis, not a Porsche. He was going west on Sahara, when the left turn signal was turning yellow he slowed down, but at the last second he decided to try and make the light. By that point it was red and there where cars coming. Two cars t-boned him and he spun around. At that point he was facing east so he proceeded down Sahara, and hit 2 other cars that we trying to get out of the way. After that he tried to get away (with 2 wheels bent sideways), lost control and crashed into the bus shelter. Thank god no one was waiting for the bus. He was clearly drunk.
@Saltdos55..On what do you base your asserstion "He was clearly drunk?" Did you administer a BAC test? Did you interact with him in anyway?
There should be a stiff set of laws on public endangerment....
Mr Reza, there are other circumstances, equally egregious, where the innocent bystanders pay the price for the actions of drunken drivers. But bus shelters have become targets, they are usually occupied by low income, highly vulnerable persons, and their protection from drunken drivers merits attention. Other examples include pedestrians, and school crosswalks. My point is that laws fail to protect the public from careless, aggressive and drunken motorists, and I think it is time to introduce some more severe penalties and enforce them.
@azsk8fan.."when they CHOOSE to DRINK AND DRIVE that is a form of premeditation... at least in MY book it is.." First thing you need to do is add a glossary to this book of yours so, at the very least, you'll learn the definition of premeditated
premeditated adjective \-ta-td\
: characterized by fully conscious willful intent and a measure of forethought and planning.
No one, not even the worst alcoholic, sits at home planning how he is going get real hammered and take out a family of four on the beltway.
"This problem will never go away" as long as people refuse to understand that the law is about justice, not vengeance, and in order to change the law, you should first make the effort to understand it.
