I am normally not a vindictive person, but I have enjoyed the sufferings of Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove and Larry Kudlow over the re-election of President Barack Obama. I am also unemotional about the apparent crack-up of Donald Trump. When the guys in white coats take him away, he’ll keep saying, “But he’s not a citizen, he’s not a citizen, he’s not a citizen.” Poor guy.

In reply to George Haushahn; how long did it take you to write your letter to the editor? Was it an enormous amount of time for you?
Your letter is not thought-provoking. Your letter does not generate any type of refined debate with new thoughts, insights or research.
It just promotes more political animosity. But, you've accomplished what you set out to do.
Right before this insignificant letter goes into the Las Vegas Sun archives, I'll be sure to add the final post. Maybe I'll even quote Rush Limbaugh by saying, "See George, I told you so."
What George failed to admit is he was a vindictive person, and enjoyed the sufferings of the people he has alway hated so much long before the election.
George is truly an unemotional person except for his hatred
Enjoy your unemotional life
This is a good article in the NY times written by Ross Douthat about the subject of liberal gloating. It is certainly okay and natural to be elated that your candidate won. This article however, pointed out that:
"...liberalism often seems indifferent to its deeper social roots. the fact that Democrats have benefited politically from these trends -- all of this makes it easy for liberals to just celebrate the emerging America, to minimize the costs of disrupted families and hollowed-out communities, and to treat the places where Americans have traditionally found solidarity outside the state (like the churches threatened by the Obama White House's contraceptive mandate) as irritants or threats. This is a great flaw in the liberal vision, because whatever role government plays in prosperity, transfer payments are not a sufficient foundation for middle-class success....it is a judgment on a certain kind of blithe liberal optimism, and the confidence with which many Democrats assume their newly emerged majority is a sign of progress rather than decline."
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/18/opinio...
The right-wingers are beyond funny. They're actually very silly with their rants saying that the Democrats are wrong in gloating over their recent election success...
Can you imagine the gloating that the right-wingers would be doing if Romney had won and the GOP had taken control of the Senate?
The resident Obama bashers on this board such as FUTURE, Carmine, RefNV, and Bradley (among others) would be in "7th heaven" and would be reminding the rest of us non-stop how correct they had been in predicting a Republican victory....
"I told you so.....I told you so......I told you so..." would be their rant.
They might even say such things as "the Democrats are toast"........"Obama will now have plenty of time to apply for American citizenship"....."Harry Reid was last seen headed for retirement in Searchlight."
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Yep, the right-wingers sure are a "sorry lot" these days, aren't they?
Oh well, the 2014 mid-term elections are just around the corner, and with any luck at all, the GOP may some how hold on to their very narrow margin (make that "gerrymandering") in the House......but don't count on it!
"gloating time".......I guess one might call it that, but I just look upon the whole thing as simply "pay back time."
With the economy continuing to improve and the Bush tax cuts disappearing into the sunset come January Ist, it's fast becoming "morning again in America."
Sorry about that Ronnie.....I just couldn't resist!
I simply love gloating........
Hey Carmine! What was your prediction concerning the 2012 election? How many electoral votes was "mittens" going to get & how many of the "swing states" was he going to carry?"
Was that 53% or 54% of the popular vote that was going to be his?
Please refresh my memory.....thanks in advance!
One other note "George Haushahn"; your senseless and ill-advised letter to the editor took away credibility from the Democratic Party and gives a further "cause and emotion" effect for Republicans.
Your letter to the editor also brings out a few of your pathetic and thoughtless buddies who commentate here.
If you think what I've written is not true, take a look at the 4:36AM post from one of your supporters in this discussion room. This commentator is not even capable of labeling me for what I truly am politically; a non-partisan Independent.
But then again, "George Haushahn" may very well be "El _Lobo". Even if they are not the same person, they are still the same. Well, with one exception, George is not afraid to put his true name to what he writes. But, that's only because his letters to the editor cannot be published unless he reveals his true identity.
The term "Fraidy-cats" comes to mind.
"El_Lobo"; in case you have not seen, after a letter to the editor goes into the archives after three days, the "All Comments" section is deleted. The Las Vegas Sun does this for appropriate reason;
"Words from the unknown have no lasting value."

"Is it wrong to enjoy the right's trouble?"
It seems to me that in the past decade we've had about all the fun we can stand from the right. We're owed at least a brief time to enjoy the right's discomfort.
How many times have I read from Democratic commentators that they are the political party that cares.
Jim Weber being one of those, now writes, "It seems to me that in the past decade we've had about all the fun we can stand from the right. We're owed at least a brief time to enjoy the right's discomfort."
Nothing like credibility down the tubes is there Jim Weber?
Republicans and Conservatives are not in that bad of shape.
Republicans control the House and will most likely continue so for the next decade.
Republicans picked up more governors and now there are 30 Republican governors in the country.
Republicans just gave the unions a big spanking in Wisconsin.
Republicans control over 26 state houses and total super majority control of North Carolina, Indiana, Oklahoma, Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri and Kansas and near complete control in some dozen others.
Republicans gave the Democrats a brusing the last non-presidential election year and I am hoping again in the next one especially with ObamaCare pain will clearly come out in the open and if we make no or little progress in the economy then the people who live off the government will stop coming to the polls.
In the presidential cycles, Republicans need to work on developing the same IT get-out-the-vote system that the Democrats have.
The righties on this site are the best comedy act in Vegas. I just cannot stop laughing!!!!!
Children, quit the fighting and the recriminations.
This election did not decide who is the best party. It simply evidenced the triumph of democracy; the separation of church and state; that three million people believed one party would represent them better than the other; that they believe the winning party can take us forward better than the other.
All this based on the relentless barrage of information aided by technology, not necessarily all accurate.
Whether or not the country moves forward or dive the ravine still remains to be seen. It all depends
on our individual exercise of fiscal responsibility.
Fighting is a waste of this valuable space. I doubt a member of congress even looks at any of the posts.
Let us instead write about individual responsibility and what each of us can do to survive these trying times.
Attacking each other only breeds ill-will and does not solve anything.
Enjoyed the letter, Mr. Haushahn. Totally agree. I also relish every single iota of suffering the Tea/Republican Party faces with their dying brand of predations.
I will also enjoy continuing to do everything in my power to make sure the Tea/Republican Party sinks to further depths of incompetence.
For years and years I have been listening to this crap that their policies are the best thing to happen since sliced cheese. And year after year, the plight of the regular average hard working man ends up looking more hopeless due to their hairbrained, greedy, self-serving policies of victimizing the poor to feed the insatiable appetites of the rich. Job creators. Yeah. Right. Sure. If that's indeed the truth, then Paris Hilton is a noted and heralded scientist in the field of quantum physics.
I vow to continue to assist as much as I can to destroy this brand of ultra-conservatism called the Republican Party, along with their infernal Tea Party infection that seems to be dragging them down into the depths of further unpopularity. It seems like people won't have to work hard at doing that. Because they seem to be performing self-destruction by letting the right wing news media dictate their policies.
The fight continues. Because the far right hasn't figured out what doing the will of the American people means.
We got another few elections to go. Then, for once and all, we kick the carcass in the already dug grave. Then bury. RIP, Tea/Republicans. Your fat cat policies rejected by the majority of the American people.
Hopefully you'll also enjoy the 'progressive' over-regulated, no growth economy too. As well as large deficits and union austerity protests.
George: Congratulations on your letter. While one poster thought it was not "thought-provoking", this self-described non-partisan independent apparently found it provoking. Five posts so far and counting.
I read the sun more for amusement then information as it leans so far to the left as to be laughable at times. However, the real issue here is that the letter of the OP was even posted. "Neener Neener" is content?
.
Come on Sun, let's try to be a bit more selective in what you choose to post. No content is better then subpar content.
.
On a brighter note, hope everybody had a fantastic holiday, and my regrets to those who were forced to work and be away from their families at any job that wasn't an essential service.

I say:
It appears that he has got your attention, in spades. You have made multiple comments all denigrating the author. If this letter writers position is as irrelevant as you claim, you would have just moseyed along.
I happen to think you are a blow hard, but I still read you. I find the intellect of a current day Archie Bunker hilarious.
Now I've seen it all! Weber describes himself as a "non-partisan independent." Shows you how one can view himself so differently from what he really is and also shows the mindset of the left - making up facts to meet the small & functionally illiterate minds that fuel their abominable agenda. I make no bones about it - I am a Conservative vehemently opposed to the agenda of the left and want them defeated at every turn. Leftists lie about "non-partisanship" because they want to pull the wool over the sheeps eyes and, as recently seen, have done so. Inch-by-inch, they are stealing our liberty's and our freedoms and the dumb sheep among us are too blinded by "free stuff" to notice or even care. Soon, Osama Obama will try to emulate Morsi of Egypt and declare himself "executive powers" that cannot be overturned by anyone. Another war is about to engulf Egypt. We must not allow that to occur here. Osama Obama is neither King nor Emperor even though the meglomanic thinks he is and we must continue our struggle to be rid of him and his fellow travelers! To the Republicrats: do not support his anti-American agenda in any way, shape or form. Do whatever is necessary to defeat him at every turn. He is the greatest danger top American liberty since the Royal House of Britain which our valiant forefathers overthrew. Honor their committment with some backbone of your own!
What's wrong with the supposed party of tolerance and transparency, aka democrats, is that they love to hate their opponents and relish in the GOP defeats, whether real or imagined. The new posture of the democratic party runs contrary to the party's ideals and values, all the while imputing these faults to republicans alone and not them.
CarmineD
The Republican party is screwed.
The GOP voter base is wacked.
And their "leaders" are all Grifters and religious wackos.
As a ex-Republican, i m really enjoying the "political" schadenfreude now.
You Teaheads can look that word up...
:-)))
"Osama Obama is neither King nor Emperor even though the meglomanic thinks he is and we must continue our struggle to be rid of him"

You teaheads are gonna help the Democrats take back the House in 2014 AND put Harry Reid in the White House in 2016 if you do.
Please stay the course, you re all doing a heck of a job.
WooT LoL
Nancy,
"Quit the fighting and the recriminations."
I would have to agree with Mr.Haushahan in part.He is correct that some of our own commenters have made predications that were not even close to what Gov.Romney achieved in this election. These same commenters also stated that they can't wait to spit in our eye, after a Romney win.
Sometimes it's better to wait before you say something that might come back to haunt you.
I also agree with you that the election is over and that we need to move on and tackle the problems that face our country.
And the emotional rage is clearly read from the political party of peace, love and caring.
It appears in this forum the "Democratic Donkey" is defying nature and giving birth civically to true and real snakes.
Wow, six posts now! And still, no thought necessary in describing political serpents!!!
Donald "the dump" Trump should focus on his own business, his restaurant was closed by the Clark County health dept for 51 violations.

The GOP is like a big club that only accepts members who have been tested and certified as 100% bats**t crazy.
Gut feelings, good hunches, wild rumors, or simply pulling stuff out of their a** all qualify as sound reasoning in decision making -- even in major decisions like invading Iraq to find fictitious WMD they heard about from a guy named Curveball.
Republican buffoonery would be comical if not for the serious, devastating consequences.
Sorry George, but I fail to see the sufferings of Rush, Carl, Larry and Donald. There is plenty of suffering going on however, America has tens of millions of people living in or at the poverty level now and rapidly expanding. The only glimmer of hope and self-worth they ever get is when some canvasser comes around promising change and a registration form.
It's always a good thing that makes us happy when republicans lose, especially when their candidate is splattered like a bug on a windshield in the presidential election. Obama's crushing defeat of Etch A Sketch was even better because republicans had false hope that they'd win, false hope based on so-called "unskewed polls" ... or some such nonsense.
Here's what Ruse Limbauh said during his on-air comedy routine on November 5th, the day before Obama won his landslide reelection with 332 Electoral Votes:
"The Redskins lost to the Carolina Panthers," Limbaugh said. "That means Romney wins. I guarantee you, if the Redskins had won the game, that's all you would be seeing on the media today. I guarantee you. You can't find it anywhere."
Limbauh has a huge gut and that huge, overfed gut told him Romney would win. Seriously, does it get any better than that for Democrats?
http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Limbaug...
Author, enjoy yourself now. In less than four years the Senate will swing Republican and the next president will clearly be Republican. He and a heavily Republican Congress will spend the next eight years undoing the mess from the prior eight years.
George Haushahn is obviously suffering from that common sense liberal virus that's been spreading across the internet. My understanding is that it attacks a person's prefrontal cortex and makes them slightly more skeptical, which in turn makes it impossible to watch or listen to Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Pat Robertson and Donald Trump, etc.
I watched Hannity for a few days after the election hoping to see his head explode on TV.
Joan Respondi,
"Author, enjoy yourself. In less than four years the senate will swing Republican and the next president will clearly be a Republican. He and a heavily Republican Congress will spend the next eight years undoing the mess from the prior eight years."
Joan, how could anyone predict what lies ahead for our country in the next 4 years? Have we given any thought that the next 4 years may very well be the best years ahead for our country since 2000?
I believe Pres.Obama has been trying very hard to undo the damage that was created by former Pres.G.W.Bush and V.P.Cheney fom 2000-2008. These are years that most Republicans turn a deaf ear to,and will not address it whenever it is brought up.If you want to point a finger the Bush years are the ones to point to.
I was watching Foxnews and all their analysts said Romney would win. Dick Morris said it would be a landslide.
Shocked to see Obama will 66% of the electoral college.
But when you're message only pertains to 1% of the people, results were guaranteed.
Too bad Fox couldn't figure it out.
How anyone could vote Republican after Bush torched the country is beyond me.
It's okay, the Democrats will be back to running "old white people" (Hillary Clinto, Joe Bide?) come 2016 and a lot of minority voters will be back to staying home come vote time. All the non white rising stars are in the Republican Party with Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Mia Love and Bobby Jindal to name a few. Then we will once again get treated to the ugliness the real racist party (Democrats)is capable of.
Holy COW!...
You'd think the letter writer had disparaged Poor Bradley's Mama, or kicked his dog, or spit in his Wheaties!
The word 'HUMORLESS' comes immediately to mind.
Lighten up, Francis!
I still read Dem. posts that blame Bush. I think its time for the Obama administration to take responsibility for the government. Its been 4 years, so lets not look back Dems lets look "Forward".
Bychuck333,
"I still read Dem.posts that blame Bush."
That' because he's the one (Bush) who caused this nightmare.
Gloating seems to be a natural human reaction especially when there is a tremendous amount of polarity involved.
It seems the social and sometimes religious leaning agenda of the Republicans gets in the way and negatively impacts their economic agenda. There is great merit to a healthy two party system, however currently it appears the Democrats are more in touch with the mainstream of the country. This may not always be so and it may not be long before someone else gloats.
Gee "Mag"got the point of your post was read loud and clear.
Thank you for solidifying my points made in my comments above.
Yep, the political snakes just keep slithering along enjoying life in the "clutch nest".
No doubt, the Republicans are the same, just their nest is in a different location.
Be many careful all you Right Wingers. The moderator on this page is a flaming liberal too.
The letter-writer was speaking of Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove, Larry Kudlow and Donald Trump, not all Republicans. Although I believe those guys are not suffering. Limbaugh, et al make their millions win or lose, but they do better when they lose because their stock-in-trade is to incite hatred against Democrats. I would add Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin to the letter-writer's list for their nasty, childish, churlish remarks, mocking the President and First Lady. Then there was the racist remarks by Sununu and Gingrich.
That Ross Douhat article doesn't surprise me. I regularly read the NYT and his columns are always critical of Democrats. He's a rightwing conservative who doesn't believe in the separation of church and state ("the churches threatened by the Obama White House's contraceptive mandate" - really?) He favored Romney and Ryan, and now he's a sore loser.
Considering the 8 years of the Bush & Cheney tyranny, considering the threats, bullying and name-calling we got before and after the election, the "Muslim-socialist-communist" tirades, blatant disrespect shown the President by Republicans, endless witch-hunts and wild-goose chases, the wailing for tax breaks, threats of firings by some employers, and impeachment threats, Democrats are not nearly as mean. We still have McCain and Graham in our faces everyday with their absurd accusations against Susan Rice, the House Republicans are still trying to repeal or change Obamacare, and they are holding the economy hostage to their demands for tax cuts, with no regard to the harm drastic cuts in Medicaid, etc. will cause. Gloating is not as mean as the threats and extortion by the Republicans. When Democrats are nice, Republicans see it as weakness.
In reply to "Bluejeans" (Suzy Savarise); this was an extremely good post at 12:47 PM. I have some pretty thick skin when it comes to taking heat for my Independent (sometimes left-wing, sometimes right-wing, sometimes neither) opinions in politics.
However, my thick skin gets pretty thin when Michele Obama is slandered. To me, Ms. Obama is in a top notch class all of her own in comparison to all the other "First Ladies" in American history.
I concur with all your points of meanness from the Republican Party. However, read once again the letter to the editor and some of the comments above in this discussion room, and you will see the Democrats are no slouches when it comes to being mean, themselves.
Two and a half years ago, on Jun 25, 2010, the Sun ran editorial titled "A Lack of Civility" ( http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/jun... ).
It received a total of 148 comments, and I posted a rough tally of who was civil and who wasn't covering the first third or so.
Here is what I thought at the time. I wish I could format this better, but restrictions on including HTML in posts prevents me from doing so:

Here is a compilation of the posts so far on this thread. I have rated each based on my impression as either Civil or Uncivil and given counts for each per post author.
I appoligize if I have classified someone as either Liberal (L) or Conservative (C) mistakenly.

Jim:
Calling me a lib instead of a conservative ticks me off. If I am one of those two it is a conservative. To further say that GOGO had 5 civil posts ever here is just an insult to everyone that ever had to endure his taunting.
I reread my comments and know that I was entirely civil. I could be uncivil at one point in my life, not for 15 to 20 years have I been uncivil.
What has changed is I got to be intimate friends with the truth. And republicans can't deal with it. Occasionally a Whig gets his knickers in a knot too :)
Jeff,
Please keep in mind that was two and a half years ago. Even today, I think some of the people who post here might disagree with you if you claimed to be a conservative had leanings in that direction. :)
Someday I'll track another story like that one. I honestly don't expect to see much different than then. In fact, I think people in general are more polarized than ever, and it is getting worse.
It should be noted that at least two of the people I listed (one conservative, one liberal) have been banned from the site since then.
Ji Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change.
2. Traditional or restrained in style: a conservative dark suit.
3. Moderate; cautious: a conservative estimate.
4.
a. Of or relating to the political philosophy of conservatism.
b. Belonging to a conservative party, group, or movement.
5. Conservative Of or belonging to the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom or the Progressive Conservative Party in Canada.
6. Conservative Of or adhering to Conservative Judaism.
7. Tening to conserve; preservative: the conservative use of natural resources
Here is the definition of conservative
1.
Caught by an errant finger on the tablet. Sorry about that.
I am covered by 1,2,3, and 7, plus 6 is irrelevant. I am not going to give the word conservative to the Republicans. They are closer to being crackheads than conservatives.
Jeff,
I wear blue jeans, Hawaiian shirts and cowboy boots. My hair is almost down to the middle of my back. I like Bach, ZZ Top, Hank Williams, Sr., and bagpipes.
Call item number 7 conservationist, not conservative, and I fall in that category, too.
And if I ever do wear a suit you can bet I have a Looney Toons or Disney tie to go with it. (And I'll still be wearing my boots. My daughter was upset because I wore boots when I walked her down the aisle. And that was in Plano, Texas!)
I guess the takeaway from this is that labels such as conservative or liberal can be misleading unless everyone agrees on the definition of terms being used. That is why I usually refer to myself a Classical Liberal, that term hasn't been hijacked yet.
(And I still think you might be a closet Whig since you wish to claim the conservative label yet I know you are socially progressive. :) )

Hello George Haushahn / APKA El-Lobo. As much as I despise quoting Rush Limbaugh, "See, I told you so"!

>>Looney Toons and Disney ties seem rather conservative. Tie-dyed ties more "Classical Liberal", and still fashionable, too. (:
