‘BALLISTIC’ BALDWIN’S BLITZ: It’s now official that CityCenter chief Bobby Baldwin’s son B.J. “Ballistic” Baldwin pulled off the incredible feat of driving 1,121 miles by himself to place 2nd in the final round of the brutal, five-race SCORE 2012 Desert Series. The 45th Tecata SCORE Baja 1000 had 298 starters in Ensenada, but only 174 finishers in La Paz. B.J.’s time was 59 seconds over 20 hours. He had a shotgun sidekick the entire time to monitor mechanicals and the GPS.

Other Las Vegas finishers included Troy Herbst, Bryce Menzies, Larry Job, Tim Herbst and Rob MacCachren. B.J. commented: “It was definitely a tough day for me. We kept calling on the radio, but nobody was answering. Before you knew it, we were at mile 820 before we heard from our pit. Our pit ended up being at mile 835. If I had gotten out, there was going to be no time for me to get back in, so I stayed in while we got fuel and tires. We had a couple of mishaps with our pits that cost us time. … It was just stuff that we slipped up on and stuff we need to lace up for next year.

“We had a good race, and the Chevy Trophy Truck ran really well. When we got to San Felipe, where all the big bumps were, I drove right around Rob MacCachren and Bryce Menzies. That’s where we were first car on the road, and we led for most of the day. It was a good race for us, but obviously we would have liked to have won. … This is my third time getting 2nd at the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, so I’m over this, and I’m ready to win it.

“The fact that I didn’t get out when I was supposed to really wore down on me physically. A thousand miles was easy, whereas the last 122 miles was the hard part. I wanted to get out and move my hips and knees and get all the fluid moving in my body, get hydrated, get a sandwich and get intelligence. Intelligence is what wins races.”

MISS UNIVERSE ARRIVES: Right after Thanksgiving, we get the invasion of 85 of the world’s most beautiful women for the 2012 Miss Universe Pageant. They’re led by 2011 Miss Universe Leila Lopes, and she’s going to be at the all-star workshop with my pal, celebrity colorist and Color salon owner Michael Boychuck at Caesars Palace on Dec. 4.

It also will serve as an open casting call for January’s Miss Nevada USA Pageant with Executive Director Shanna Moakler, Miss Nevada USA Jade Kelsall and Miss Nevada Teen USA Katie Eklund. The official welcome ceremony is set for Dec. 6. Miss Universe with owner Donald Trump is live from Planet Hollywood on Dec. 19 on NBC hosted again by E! Entertainment’s Giuliana Rancic and Bravo’s Andy Cohen.
