McCarran’s indoor smoking areas criticized in CDC report

McCarran International Airport may be most known for its plethora of slot machines, but it’s also one of five large airports in the United States that allows smoking. And just in time for one of the busiest travel days of the year, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report Tuesday criticizing those airports for secondhand smoke. According to the CDC study, average air-pollution levels from secondhand smoke directly outside designated smoking areas in airports are five times higher than levels in smoke-free airports. “The finding in today’s report further confirms that ventilated smoking rooms and designated ...

  1. Please post the locations at McCarran! I'll patronize those spots. I was under the impression that they had all been eliminated.

  2. With everything known today about the hazards of smoking and you continue the habit, you are either an idiot or addicted beyond help.

  3. As opposed to all the other carcinogens in the airport with all that jet/car/truck exhaust. I am sure not having this smoking areas will make all that go away. I am not a smoker but could care less if they have it. I would rather have a smoker calm on a flight then being irritable the entire way.

  4. TomD agreed on the smoking thing but would you also say this same thing about alchohol?

  5. They do talk of the benefits of a glass of red wine. Alcohol in moderation isn't going to have the same ill effects of smoking, but I agree alcohol has its problems for a large portion of the population. I can tolerate a drinker sitting next to me. Not a smoker. It stinks.

  6. I have been flying in and out of LAS for the last 3 years, and have never saw a smoking room. They must be hidden, and I am a smoker. I don't mind when I land because I just go outside and have one and then it's time to get my bag and grab a taxi to my hotel. But it sure would be nice to smoke one when I leave. Where they at?

  7. Per the McCarran Airport website:
    https://www.mccarran.com/Find/Facilities...
    .............................................................................

In compliance with Nevada state law, smoking is prohibited in all indoor areas at McCarran.

Smoking is permitted in the following areas:
    Enclosed Gaming Lounges (D & E Gates)
    Bud Track Lounge (Esplanade)
Outdoors near ticketing & baggage claim

Locations: D Gates, T1 Public Shopping Area (Esplanade), E Gates at T3

  8. Get rid of the smoking in the airport.
    It's disgusting, polluted air.
Who do you think breathes it? The workers, the cleaning and maintenance people!
Do airport executives breathe cigarette smoke in their offices? If the top people at the airport don't have to breathe it then NO ONE should!
