A suspected drunken driver suffered critical injuries after crashing a sport utility vehicle early Tuesday morning in the northwest valley, Metro Police said.
The single-vehicle accident happened at 12:23 a.m. on Cheyenne Avenue, west of Rainbow Boulevard, police said. It appears Lee Turner, 50, was driving a 2012 Ford Escape east on Cheyenne when he failed to maintain his travel lane, police said.
Lee drove onto a raised island between the right travel lane and right turn lane, striking a signal light post, police said.
Emergency crews transported Lee to University Medical Center. Because Lee showed signs of impairment, police said, he faces a count of driving under the influence.

There's a certain percentage of the population that will never understand the implications of drinking and driving. I see them in the casino all the time. Young, old, male, female...gambling and drinking. They lose track of how many they've had.
Yeah that's it, blame the casinos and not the individual who is consuming the alcohol.
Well at least for once it's the DRUNK DRIVER getting hurt - they usually walk away unscathed and some innocent person dies. It's not that I want to see ANYONE hurt but if it must be then at least this time the drunk got what he deserved.
