NDOT to begin excavation project on Mount Charleston

Portions of Deer Creek Road near Mount Charleston will be closed starting Tuesday while Nevada Department of Transportation begins an excavating project for trail improvements.

NDOT officials said the road would be closed from Deer Creek Picnic Area to the intersection of Lee Canyon Road from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday. NDOT is conducting blast operations to lengthen the overlook and add a new overlook to the trail on Deer Creek Road.

NDOT officials said they also would be cutting into the mountain to create sightlines between coming traffic and the nearby parking lot.

Officials said Lee Canyon Road and Kyle Canyon Road would remain open.
