The fire, reported at 11:05 p.m., was located in a bedroom on the second floor of a two-story home divided into upstairs and downstairs apartments at 632 N. Ninth St., Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said in a news release. Upon arrival, firefighters evacuated neighboring homes.

Firefighters put out the fire in about five minutes. They discovered the body of a man on the floor of a bedroom next to a bed, officials said. Szymanski said the fire did $75,000 damage, mostly to the bedroom.

Two adults and two children who also lived in the building were displaced by the fire.
