To say the obvious: Democrats won an amazing victory. Not only did they hold the White House despite a still-troubled economy, in a year when their Senate majority was supposed to be doomed, they actually added seats. Nor was that all: They scored major gains in the states. Paul Krugman is a columnist for The New York Times.

Dr. Krugman is still deluding himself. Not just in economics with his insistence on keynesian theories but his account of the election results. We got a divided government. Same before and after the election. Nothing changed. Obama is a lameduck president. He's got a republican controlled House. He can't do a thing without the House on board with him. And he's got to work to get it.

Things to do list for Congress:
1. Thanksgiving recess.
2. Christmas recess.
3. Thelma (Boehner) and Louise (Reid) drive the
congressional clown car off the fiscal cliff.
Carmine: Obama can "do a thing without the House on board". He can do exactly what the letter writer says. Let us go off the cliff, then implement tax cuts for the middle class. Obama doesn't need the house this go-round. Obama will get exactly what he wants with or without the Repubs. It is pure fantasy to believe Repubs can control this particular situation.
