The UNLV basketball team did what it was supposed to do Monday night in the season opener: They beat a team they were better than. And beat them rather convincingly. UNLV, at least for one night, lived up to its hype and preseason expectations — which, considering the expectations by some (a trip to the Final Four) were rather lofty, speaks volumes about the Rebels’ potential to live up to those aspirations. Good call on Mayweather........Rebs have depth and skills in all areas. If they play with controlled chaos on defense and as a team and patient on offense , they can go a long way. Lott-o talent. Play smart and twiy
"UNLV is, and always will be, a team that lives and dies with the outside shot."
Um, no. Seriously, Mr. Brewer needs to cover something other than Rebel hoops, he's clearly not too knowledgeable on the subject. He should stick to professional sports or boxing, as he has demonstrated more than once his substandard knowledge of the college game.
Coach Rice is trying to bring back the Tarkanian-style of play, which is, basically, pressure the opponent on defense, create turnovers and maximize quick, easy baskets at the rim. That was Tark's philosophy more or less and is what Rice models his coaching style after, as evidenced at BYU. Yes we all know BYU had Jimmer, but the BYU offense was predicated on emphasizing and creating easy baskets not the outside shot, though it helps.
Please, Mr. Brewer, stop writing on the Rebels as you clearly need to be educated on what the program is all about.
