Photos: Night of triumph for Cirque’s ‘Zarkana’ at Aria becomes the toast of the town

It was a night of triumph -- and comeback -- for Cirque du Soleil with the stunning premiere of its newest Las Vegas spectacle “Zarkana” on Friday evening at Aria. “I feel as if a 2,000-pound weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” Cirque President Daniel Lamarre told me while beaming at the first-night standing ovation and long applause. Daniel also was celebrating the same-day news that Cirque’s Michael Jackson “Immortal” had been named best touring musical arena show of 2012, and he’d given it a new two-year-extension to run past 2014. Currently in Scandinavia, “Immortal” will move onto Asia ...

  2. Superb staging and obviously very talented performers, but the show is straight up cirque cut 'n paste. All they were missing were the two circus strongmen types that balance on each other's bodies. Maybe I was asleep when they appeared.

    I loved the quote about the story being one that you could maybe get lost with, and then have to come up with a storyline of your own. That guidance will be very helpful for anyone that checks out the show.

    All that being said, props to Cirque for being able to get away what they do. I'm sure they're laughing at people like me - all the way to the bank.
