Defense propels Canyon Springs to playoff win over Basic

When Canyon Springs defensive back A.J. Cooper picked off Basic quarterback Jaylen Rose in the third quarter, nobody expected him to do what followed. As he was going down, he pitched the ball to fellow defensive back Diamante Luna. The ball took a hop before Luna scooped it up and made an incredible run, outsprinting many Wolves defenders en route to an 86-yard score. “I didn’t expect (the pitch),” Luna said. “I had to do something to help my team. 1. If canyon had any oline play they would be scary, but t hese backs have to do it all on their own which will only get them so far.

  2. Canyon's experience playing Palo, Green Valley and Liberty away and very very close will benefit them next week against Liberty.

Liberty has played sluggish at times and while I selfishly would love to see a Green Valley vs Liberty Sunrise final I would not be shocked if Canyon (with a healthy Pumphrey) is able to pull it off against Liberty. Should be a good game.

Last night up north Spanish Springs which lost to Reed two weeks ago by a score of 47-14 very nearly beat them and ended up giving up a comfortable lead to lose 41-38, but it just goes to show that specially in HSFB anythign can happen and certainly beating a team a second time puts the pressure on the team who won the first meeting
