The world’s top showcase of international burlesque stars kicks off a weekend-long run at the Orleans. Think of the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend as a four-day festival of flesh ranging from 38-DD wonders to 56-DDD record busters. The nightly who’s who of international burlesque performers represent seven generations of stripper-stars from more than 35 cities in 10 countries.
It starts tonight with Movers, Shakers & Innovators and continues Friday with the 55th annual burlesque reunion showcase. On Saturday, its the 22nd annual Tournament of Tease and wraps Sunday with Icons & All-Stars. Call it all the Oscars of Burlesque.
Our own hometown Blanche DeBris teams with Mat Fraser from London for tonight’s world-class, eye-popping array of burlesque superstars and up-and-comers from around the globe -- as far away as Australia, England, Switzerland and Canada. Check out the rundown of performers and the schedule at the Burlesque Hall of Fame website.
Three “classes” of special note: tonight’s “Dr. Sketchy’s Art School” with live models displaying the female form; on Friday, Bobcats Bowling features burlesque stars busting out of their tightest outfits; and Saturday afternoon “Naked Girls Reading,” which is exactly what you’d expect to appreciate literature in a new way. I’m told that burlesque is not only very much alive and well but also growing in popularity every year as its comeback continues.
Meantime, the Fetish & Fantasy Halloween Ball is so large that the event will feature three Hard Rock Hotel locations Oct. 31: Erotic Playground in Muse Ballroom with audience participation and a stage; the main event area Inferno with theatrical performances and DJs; and Orb with an alien theme.
WICKED WHISPERS & RACY RUMORS
I’m hearing increasing buzz that reality TV star Kim Kardashian, who might well be in Las Vegas this weekend with new instant love Kanye West, might turn up with brother Rob Kardashian when he judges Sunday’s 61st Annual Miss USA Pageant at Planet Hollywood. Gossips back East say not only is the couple moving in together, but Kanye also can’t be without Kim at his side.
Kim and Rob will definitely be on the Strip when she does a 1 to 3 p.m. meet-and-greet at her Kardashian Khaos in the Mirage on Sunday and then hosts at Rehab at the Hard Rock Hotel. Rob will be a step away at 3 p.m. on the red carpet at Planet Hollywood. However, pageant officials are concerned that if Kim and Kanye show up, it could lead to, ahem, Khaos.
I can confirm -- but still must keep the full details secret -- that rocker Sammy Hagar will videotape a special announcement Saturday while helping chef pal Kerry Simon celebrate the second anniversary of his KGB (Kerry’s Gourmet Burgers) in Harrah’s. Sammy will reveal a major rock awards to be held here in August. Any wild and unfounded rumors of Garth Brooks bringing his residency at the Wynn to an end were proved totally wrong when he announced shows there monthly from Sept. 21 through Nov. 17. Tickets for the new block go on sale June 9.
Dinner guests at the prestigious James Beard House in New York will taste “Modern French -- Vegas Style” on Friday when chefs Mark Purdy and Tammy Alana from Alize at the Top of the Palms serve a seven-course feast. The couple, who are engaged to marry next year, say it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to cook together at the Beard House. The first part of their dinner begins in the gardens, and then guests climb to the second-floor dining room for the remaining five-course menu with wine pairings. They will take part in a Q&A with the sold-out crowd over coffee.
The Chocolate Lounge at Sugar Factory American Brasserie in the Paris starts offering wines from around the world as of Friday. A sommelier will be on hand for five pairing options, with the wine list changing monthly. A Moscato with my macaroon, please; a Torrontes with my truffle; a Beaujolais with my bonbons.
New Las Vegas resident Nicolas Cage flew out today for China, where he will join Naomi Watts, Amber Heard and Jessica Alba to open the world’s largest Montblanc store this weekend in Beijing. The world premiere of its new flagship will feature the entire Princess Grace of Monaco collection of watches, writing instruments and jewelry. Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Cee Lo Green watched “Le Reve -- the Dream” at the Wynn. He raved about the production backstage, took many photos and urged the performers to see his new show “Loberace” that starts Aug. 29 at Planet Hollywood. Comedian Frank Caliendo, his wife and two children watched “Terry Fator’s Ventriloquism in Concert” at the Mirage and backstage afterward posed for photos with Terry and his wife, Taylor Makakoa. Congratulations to veteran comedian Grandma Lee, who celebrated her 78th birthday this week before flying here to start tonight’s two-month run in King's Comedy Room at The Rio.
Matt Goss sings for his supper at an exclusive kickoff party he’s hosting at Caesars Palace for the start of the JCK jewelry and couture convention. Pastor’s son Allen Stone performs at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, doing double duty there for three days, while K-Flav performs at the nearby Boulevard Pool. Comedy is king with Steve Rannazzi from “The League at Empire Comedy Club in Paris; K-Von from “Disaster Date” at the L.A. Comedy Club in Cabo Wabo Cantina at Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile; and Grandma Lee at the Rio performing on fellow comedian Eddie Griffin’s free days.
It’s the end of The Playboy Club’s six-year run at the Palms, and our Weekend Celebrity Preview has a retrospective of the stars who became Bunny blackjack dealers and turned Hef’s hutch into their Las Vegas playground, plus the touching highlight of country legend Glen Campbell as he plays his last concerts here because of his battle with Alzheimer’s.
