Bellagio Gardens: Summer 2012

Summer in the desert is taking on a cooler East Coast feel this year at the Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens with a salute to the New England seashore. The new summer floral exhibition at the Bellagio, free and open 24/7, debuted Tuesday and will be on display through Sept. 9.

Contributing photographer Tom Donoghue was on the scene earlier today for this great gallery. New to the summer exhibition is a blue-and-white lighthouse with a rotating beam, plus hourlong concerts each day at 5 p.m. by classical and jazz guitarists.

As Tom’s photos show, the exhibit is inspired by water, light and scents to create the crisp New England atmosphere. Look closer, and you’ll see egrets, floral frogs and ladybugs among the carousel and balloons. The rocky shore of the coastal pond is topped off with a sailboat that represents East Coast summers.

The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Arts, which is exhibiting a Claude Monet “Impressions of Light” salute, collaborated with the Conservatory to re-create a floral interpretation of Monet’s “Cap Martin” comprised of 1,000 flowers in a 6-foot-tall carved frame.

Go and enjoy the cool -- particularly now that we’re above 100 degrees again!
