Pedestrians killed
The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified the man and woman from Alabama who died Saturday night after a car struck them south of the Las Vegas Strip.
Dana Goudie, 51, and Scott Burchard, 52, both died from multiple blunt-force injuries suffered in the accident, officials said. They were from Mobile, Ala.
The accident happened about 9:15 p.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard north of Robindale Road, Metro Police said.
It appears the two were crossing the boulevard from west to east, but they were not in a marked crosswalk, police said.
A 2008 Honda Accord driven by a 23-year-old Las Vegas man was traveling north on Las Vegas Boulevard when it struck them, police said. The driver remained at the scene.
Goudie and Burchard were transported to University Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead, police said.
The accident marked the 55th and 56th traffic-related fatalities in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.

I am pretty sure that homicidal maniacs get it that murder is legal so long as a pedestrian is not in a marked cross walk in Las Vegas.
9:15pm...it's Dark. Not in a crosswalk. I really hate to call it out because 2 people died but YOU HAVE GOT TO THINK!
I see this all the time driving around. People will avoid walking 50 feet to a crosswalk at a stop light just so they can get across the street 30 seconds faster.
These same people are also wearing black or other dark colors and usually don't bother to check if anybody's coming, making it nearly impossible to see them at night.
The same thing happened near Fremont, where the "TIME UNTIL NEXT WALK SIGNAL" sign is. It clearly said "Don't walk", yet people would just waltz into the intersection. It's just asking for it at that point.
Amen, TeamSG1...
Nail on the head, Daniel.
I'm sure the 'I'm more important than everyone else in the world, AND I'm in a hurry, so gtf out of my WAY' crowd that permeates the valley like so many fleas will continue to remain clueless & classless, as ever.
Jaywalkers are prevalent in EVERY MAJOR CITY IN AMERICA...
I don't read about them getting run over on a daily basis because the drivers in those cities are 'too important to be bothered' with the simple act of looking where they're going.
Hey, Vegas; You don't think running over tourists is bad for business???
The female pedestrian is my friend Donna's sister. She is absolutely devestated. Apparently the nearest crosswalk across this very fast moving street is a MILE away. I'm not placing the blame anywhere but that is asking for trouble. Please remember this couple in your thoughts. They were GREAT people.
Sorry cathuggerjane, that's not physically possible.
The incident occurred between Robindale Road and Warm Springs Road which are 0.45 miles apart.
That means that they were far less than a mile away from the marked and controlled crosswalk at Warm Springs.
I was just quoting the news report yesterday(not sure which channel) that stated the location of my friend's sister's demise was a mile from a crosswalk. Thanks for your compassion.
Then that news report was blatantly false.
Bottom line, unless they dropped from the sky, the only way to get to where they died (from any building or bus stop on that side of the road) required them to walk AWAY from a marked crosswalk.
I fully support each individual's right to end their life at any time they choose to do so. If you are seeking compassion, may I suggest that you turn to the rest of their family and friends rather than seeking solace from strangers in the community which these two selfishly forced to participate in their suicide.
Nobody knows the circumstances regarding why two people would jump into five lanes of pitch black traffic moving 50MPH, but some people commenting here sure act like they know everything.
50MPH = 66 feet per second = 100+ feet to stop the average car AFTER the obstacle is recognized.
Pedestrians make bad decisions in Las Vegas every day; within an hour of a pedestrian jaywalking across six lanes of Sahara Ave traffic and dying (near Decatur), more pedestrians were doing the exact same thing, actually stepping over the police markings on the street.
Has nothing to do with Las Vegas, and everything to do with human choices.
