While investigating crash, Metro officer struck by suspected drunken driver

Officer struck

A Metro Police officer investigating a crash in the east Las Vegas Valley was hit in the right leg by a passing pickup truck.

The officer was on a call around 7:20 p.m. when a truck carrying two women bumped into him near the intersection of Harmon Avenue and Mountain Vista Street, police said.

According to police, the truck did not stop and continued down the road where it ultimately crashed into a fence outside an apartment complex on Mountain Vista Street and Indios Avenue.

The two women were injured after hitting the fence and were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, police said. The officer was taken to University Medical Center for evaluation and has since been released.

It appears alcohol played a factor in the incident and the driver will be arrested for DUI and hit and run, police said.

No further details were immediately available.
