Apartment fire
A family of five was displaced Tuesday after their North Las Vegas apartment building caught fire.
Firefighters arrived around 3:11 p.m. at a smoke filled two-unit, two-story apartment building at 2124 Ellis St., near Lake Mead Boulevard and Belmont Street, according to the North Las Vegas Fire Department.
Firefighters evacuated one unit, where two adults and three children lived, officials said. The other unit was vacant.
Within minutes, the nearly 30 firefighters from the North Las Vegas, Clark County and Las Vegas fire departments were able to contain and extinguish the fire, officials said.
For about an hour, fire crews used large fans to rid the homes of smoke, official said. Both apartments sustained smoke damage and some fire damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said. No injuries were reported and the Red Cross will be assisting the family members with their immediate needs.
